***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Do you see how easily handled and plunked up and down they are? lol I just adore these guys after having Channing.

I have a boy from Betsy's birds. He has a gimpy foot but he is full of personality. I just really don't have the time to spend with him and he is lonely. Also I will be putting my house up for sale soon and I'm sure it won't sell well with a chicken in my bedroom. LOL

Granddaughter is here for the week. We just finished our morning chores (this is where we need a smilie that looks completely worn out). We're in for a break, lunch, and then we're out again to plant some vegetables.

Here's our goat baby girl. She's doing well. I hope her aunties have their kids soon so that she can have some playmates.

It is just not fair, hubby is sitting at the kids homeschool coop talking chickens with all the moms and I am at work! LOL Glad he shares my love of my feather babies though.

Anyone living close to Firelake Grocery in Shawnee they are having a huge sale on veggies and fruits this week. Just stocked up on Strawberries and Potatos before work and I may send hubby over for more when he gets here at noon to pick these up.

That is an odd looking machine. Are they several hundred dollars? If I could ever bring myself to raise a batch of meat birds and process them I'd want the right equipment to do it.
Yes, they start around $600 and go up from there, depending on the size and quality. The one I ordered will pluck 3 birds at a time in 20 seconds.

She is so adorable, I just love goats. The chicks are doing well growing and running all over the place. Trying to decide wich boy I will keep.

I'm in for a lunch break too, I will be mowing most of the day, and hope to finish in time to make an herb / flower bed.

Dang. I guess I'll eat store chicken quite awhile longer lol

The Splash Cochin I've got left here is wearing the girls heads out in the layers yard, they're too small for him. I'm going to put him in an 8x20 pen and find a couple big girls. Does anyone have any big sized girls for sale? Otherwise I'm going to look for some at Newcastle this weekend. They don't have to be purebred, just hens with some size on them.

There are drill mounted table top pluckers for sale or plans to make them much cheaper for those of us that would only be doing a few at a time for our own home use. You have to hold the bird in place while the plucking fingers do their job, and it takes a minute or so while you rotate the bird, they can be made or bought for under $50. Not really practical for buster w/ his thousand or so birds, but if you are doing a handful at a time more then adequate.

LOL we butchered 80 cornish rocks 15 years ago without a plucker we ended up skinning them instead it was just to labor intensive. We won't do that again. To me it just wasn't worth it. Now that big plucker now that would be the way to go!
