For some reason I thought you had Silver Laced Bantam Cochins not standard size!! Those birds are awesome, very beautiful. I'm not holding out a whole lot of hope for my Silver Laced and Gold Laced eggs because only 4 had intact air sacs. Do you sell eggs from these Silver Laced and your Gold Laced? In case none of mine hatch I'd sure like to have a back-up plan.

Went to OKC VA today for blood work. I hate when they do anything that they have to cut on me for. They wean me off my Warferin (blood thinner or mouse poison which ever you chose) then they make me give myself shots in the stomach twice a day starting 5 days before until a week after, starting back on the warferin the day after. The shots hurt like the devil, and my belly is nothing but knots and bright black and blue. I guess the bright side, from an angle looking just right the knots look like wash board abs.

. Then it is check the blood every few days till they get it right again. Today was about 1/2 what it was supposed to be, so get to change dose and go back Friday.

Youch. I can't imagine having to deal with what you're going through. With my family history it's a distinct probability though. You seem to have kept your sense of humor which is more than I'd be able to say for most. Here's hoping you get good news.

I have a broody question for all the old broody hen folks. Had a blue asil hen set on some eggs. They hatched and I swooped up the chicks and put in a brooder. The hen went right back to setting on her old nest. After day two I stuck a handfull of eggs that I had collected waiting for a broody hen under her. She has set them for 3 days now. Do you think she will go 2 full settings, or should I switch out under the next broody.
Carl, was just talking about Wyandottes and how it's best to leave the chicks with the mama hen for a week or she'll just keep right on sitting. I'm betting your hen is the same way, she doesn't realize they hatched so she's still waiting and she'll keep it up until they do.
(Keep in mind I've never hatched under a broody but I do put a lot of stock in what Carl says lol)

I have only had chickens going on 3 Summers now but I have Cochins so I have a bit of experience with broodiness, ha. I bet she will hatch the new eggs out too. If I can't get my girls off being broody ( which I often can't) they usually hatch two nests before they quit.

I got asked the evening at the auction, "You got rabbits too?" Never talk about them, but I do..not many, but thought I'd post a couple pics.

My Buck

Doe #1

What I found Friday morning, 4/20, 8 little wigglies

Doe #2

And what we found this morning, 4/23...6 little wigglies

Momma checking out to see what I'm doing

So, Yep...I got rabbits, lol

Tonight I was doing my best to get an accurate guess of how many birds we had in the barn lean-to. Found 2 Roos I missed during my last butcher season! They are sneaky things. They camouflaged right in!

I don't think we have lost any birds but for some reason I am only getting 4-6 blue & green eggs a day & the rest are RIR or NN eggs. Started looking at my colored egg layers & I think the issue is they have been getting too much love from the rooster. Think I will move them to their own pen for recovery.
Talked to DH for a bit tonight & he said I should keep setting chicken eggs in the incubator so we have plenty of extra layers for next spring. I asked if he had noticed we had 4 full brooders & a grow out pen. Maybe DD & I should do a count & write how many chicks are in box & then subtract 60% to account for any Roos or potential losses.

x2 - exactly what she said. Laughter IS good medicine. - helps alot in marriage too.

Bfrancis looks like you will have your hands full!

Rabbits & quail interest me, but only briefly! I like the quail for the cute tiny eggs. The rabbits I only want for their manure. Think it is easier just to collect manure from those that already own rabbits.
We bought a rabbit @ cement auction a yr or so ago. Brought it home & the dogs were way interested in her. The next day she had babies & died. Don't think I was suppose to have pet rabbits.

Laughter is the best medicine, but it is hard to do when you have shots in the stomach! You must be using a huge needle!

I bet she stays with it.

I'm keeping my eyes open for news and I'll let you know if I end up getting any after all from the ones I've got incubating.
Thanks!

Christina, my Faverolles boy is wearing one of his 3 girls out. I bought the 2 together and they're joined at the hip so I think it'd do more harm than good to separate them. If she stays up late under the light catching bugs he literally sleeps right there on the ground until she's done. I've looked out many a night at midnight and saw him sawing logs right next to where she's snatching bugs out of the air from the light. He tends to each one of his girls while they lay their eggs, he's so wonderful. But like I said-his favorite girl is *bald*! I'm scared the Chicken Police will show up and accuse me of not taking care of her lol I don't know what can be done but am wondering if there's some sort of bonnet they make for it.
