***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have a broody question for all the old broody hen folks. Had a blue asil hen set on some eggs. They hatched and I swooped up the chicks and put in a brooder. The hen went right back to setting on her old nest. After day two I stuck a handfull of eggs that I had collected waiting for a broody hen under her. She has set them for 3 days now. Do you think she will go 2 full settings, or should I switch out under the next broody.

Well, I'm not an old broody, or even very experienced with them,

but I have a hen that has been setting for going on two months now and showing no signs of getting off the nest. The first batch of eggs she was on wasn't much good-- she only hatched one chick and I snagged it out from under her. I switched out eggs since the rest weren't good and she is happily mothering the new batch so far. I just watch her closely every day and figure if she leaves the nest I will hurry the eggs into the incubator.

I am still looking for a small or bantam NN rooster, if anyone has one. Not feather legged. Kass, best way I know how to sex them is the patients pullets saddle feathers will be round, the cockerels will be pointed.

I put my current hatch in lock down today. I hope they all do well. I have one Sussex egg pipping from the wrong end. I drew a circle around the middle of the egg, like a belt, so that I can identify it when I open the hatcher. I want to be able to check progress on that egg without hunting for it.

I had fence guys come out to give me an estimate to put up a goat enclosure. They'll need to use an auger to set corner posts, and part of the pasture has native rock, so I'm hoping this project will not turn into a nightmare. I want to give the goats the area of the pasture that is hilly and rocky, since I can't plant trees there. The fence guys kept eying the lower pasture, where everything is nice and flat, and there isn't any rock. Easy and Best Use don't always go together.

What are you hatching?

The goats will love the rocky pasture, and much less hoof trimming ........... win / win, except if you are a fence builder.

I don't see any on any of them, I think they are to young right now.
