***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Quote: So sorry to hear about the loss....
I shouldn't make jokes about him. he is a good guy. I have been increasingly frustrated and worn out by my job and today, with his full support, I resigned. I'm sad but relieved, ( and a little worried about the future).
It's amazing how much schools have changed in the past 10 years. The future is wide open!
My last batch of chicks have the worst so far. They were a mix of broody hatched and incubator hatch and none have done any good. Lost about half already. The prior batch is doing great with hardly any losses.

I passed a kidney stone tuesday and even tho it felt better afterward as the day wore on I got sicker. By wed morning she had me in ER. Major kidney infection! Thats why I had been feeling so rough for several days. ...Thats the sickest I have felt in a long time!
Sounds like all are ready for a good time at Poops.
Sorry to hear you have been under the weather....kidney stones are horrible!!
Seems like there are hatches that thrive better than others. not easily explained either since they are brooded so similiarly.
Sure wish you and Michael could make it to POOPS.
Artsyrobyn...will bring a rosebush for you to POOPS also...maybe someone can get it to you.

Got caught up reading the 190 posts ..Wow!!.
Have been making cages for the new brooder shelving and will use them to transport birds to POOPS. Will bring boxes for folks to transfer birds so I can bring the cages back home. I've gotten pretty good at making cages....experience is a good teacher. Mowed the yard and garden today...looks so much better.
Got to get up early to start the potato salad. I like to make it early and let the flavors blend in the fridge.
Going to bed now.....

Okla - sorry to hear about your kidney stones and infection. I've had the same thing happen, and even my little granddaughter who is 8 has them. She sees a nephrologist for hers. My stones come periodically, and when they do, I'm down for the count. They are very painful, so I can sympathize with you. Some folks have a bout with them once, then never again. Some folks have them periodically their whole lives. Hopefully yours were a one-time occurrence.

MJ - I think there is a time for all of us when we make choices that make us feel unsure about our futures, but things have a way of working out. Sometimes our jobs just aren't fulfilling for us any longer and/or are frustrating to the point that it's just not worth continuing. I wish you the best with your future career choice. Just move forward and don't second guess yourself about your past decisions.

Ksane - did you take your chicken to Dr. Zinn? I liked him when I took Bunny to him and am considering taking my cats to him too. As for the Stillwater vet place - you can take your pet there without a referral. I called them when Bunny was sick and they were going to see her if I couldn't find another vet that was closer. The vet students see animals in the clinic there and when I spoke with them, they seemed friendly and compassionate. They see all kinds of animals there and didn't make me feel silly for wanting to bring a chicken to them for treatment.

The coop at the lake house is almost finished. Yay! Next week I'll start on painting and putting the finishing touches on it. This coop project turned out much like other projects I start. My first plan was to have a 4 X 8 coop until I thought that wasn't big enough, so turned it into an 8 X 8. Then I thought I'd better add some storage space to it, so now it has become an 8 X 16 coop/storage area. The man who's building it has given me some good ideas for it and I am thankful for the input. Building the pen around the coop is next.

Question: I was considering putting some stick-on vinyl floor tiles on the inside of the coop, but the man who's building the coop said that they probably won't last very long in there. Has anyone used them in their coops? What other types of materials would be good to use? I'm afraid that the wood floors will deteriorate in short order without some sort of protective surface on them. They're painted right now, but that's all. The floor is raised with deck blocks and sits about 6 inches off the ground. Ideas welcomed.

I don't know if I am up late or early, but am toooo tired to care. It's been a long shift

hope your health and chickie problems improve.

mj changing such big things is scary, but exciting at the same time weigh your choices and go w/ what will make you happy

updayz, the individual tiles won't last they will peel up, linoleum I think would work well, but a solid piece.

I am going to miss seeing you all.

The union is having a meeting with everyone to explain the contract we have to vote on next week. I will be glad when everything gets settled so I can retire. lol

We didn't get to see you last year at POOPS either, except for the few minutes on Friday night when you dropped off your plucker for the demonstration.

Do things at work ever get to a place where we can feel like things are in competent hands if we retire? On the other hand, as long as you enjoy your job I can appreciate why you wouldn't want to retire.

upcdayz - We just put vinyl tiles down in part of our house. I think they would be an excellent choice for a coop floor, they clean very well, but the only ones we could find were expensive!

robin - sorry about your pup :( One of mine got a hit by a car a few weeks ago. He was living at my parents while we worked on flooring in the house.

okla - sorry about the stones. I have a friend that battles those and he is miserable when they flair up.

MJ - congrats on resigning!

jcat - cute baskets!! I wish something around here was laying so my oldest could enter the contest!

Cooking this evening, excited about POOPS in the morning!! Yeah!!

I am past ready and was going to go Jan 1st but the bankruptcy put a kink in things to go early. I had an appointment to sign the papers on Nov 30 and AA filed on Nov 29. It is all going to work out but just have to wait a while. I have plenty to keep me busy.
