***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Deanne , thanks for the luck you sent for my pullet :) It must have worked. I took her up there this morning and he did a re-check and said he didn't feel anything but food in there. It's gone down a lot over the weekend. He said he did find just a small amount of yeast on the stain after I left Friday so he sent some meds home for that plus said to keep her on the meds for bacteria also. He probably got enough of it out Friday when he flushed her so she could digest the rest.

Les, thanks for the info on the quitter eggs. This one in question just *looks different than the others. There's veins but only a few. I suppose if I wait a day or 2 those will be absorbed. I don't think it's alive but I'm not positive enough that I'm willing to put it in the freezer just yet.

Christina, the history on Fat Louie cracked me up lol! I know how your DD feels. My very 1st hatch was my LF Cochins. That batch will always be my favorites. I don't feel so bad about my 1 LF Fav girl being bald after I heard you've got that problem, too. I don't think it'd even help if I got the boy even more more hens. She's his favorite and won't leave his side, she just makes it too easy for him. I've considered separating them til her head feathers grow back but they'd both be miserable and as soon as they were together the same thing would happen. ANd for the record-if I had 50 Guinea keets at my house I'd be staying at the Motel 6 :-O

Robin, that Silkie/Cochin cross is adorable :)) I'm too scared to breed crosses yet, I want to wait and see if I'll be able to find homes for the purebred boys. My luck nobody will want boys, purebred or not.

Brandy, your 1st egg?? Is Bonnie one of the Red Stars? I remember how excited I was when my precious Cochin girls laid their 1st eggs-all on the same day. I saved them, I'll keep them forever.

Nana, I came soooo close to getting some d'Anvers eggs the other day. I got the Plymouth Rock bantams instead. There was a Dun Cuckoo color that Boggy Bottoms has that I'd love to get. Is there anything cuter than those Cochin babies though??? Your hands are so pretty holding that frog. Poor frog though, I'd never be able to kill him and eat him. I adore toads and frogs.

OkieT-Chalk one up for Seramas! I know my little Serama boy is one of the highlights of my life every single day. What a happy ending for him and the little Cochin both :)

Joe, I had no idea you had Araucanas. Alright, all of you are being forewarned.....I'm trying to talk Joe out of some Araucanas. I need you all to back off before it comes to blows

Joe, It makes me wonder how many other breeds you've got that I've looked for and couldn't find. I'd even gladly take a boy if he was one of the BBR. My God, those birds are gorgeous.
Oops, forgot the pics I was going to post. The little Bantam Fav girl who seems to be better now and one of the little LF Silver Laced Cochins that hatched Saturday while I was at POOPS.

Mitzi gald your girl is well. But do I need to remind you just a wk ago I believe you posted if you could get some blue wheatens your chicken list would be complete & you wouldn't need any other breeds??? What happened???
The keets are not so bad the first few days. By the 2nd wk they are messy & getting louder. 50 would never make it in a box past wk 2. Not because of there size, but they need more space since they run like crazy! They will all be going to the auction on Saturday, minus any favorites of DD of course. I am thinking 4 brooders always being full plus 2 grow out pens, the girl may have too many favorites. I was really surprised she picked out over 20 chicks to take to poops that she had previously set aside as favorites. Watching her sort them is an experience. I never know which ones will make the cut. She picks out the oddest favorite qualities! Any chick with an extra toe, stripe or dot is guaranteed to earn a spot as a favorite.

Oh sure, easy for YOU to say, you already have a Blue Wheaten lol! And besides-how was I to know Joe was going to post those Araucanas?? What? Now I'm a mind-reader??

Such a cutie!!! And a great photo: He looks embarrassed you took his picture while he was eatting.

My first set of hens when we moved out to the farm included a LF SL Cochin hen we called Lacy. She was the sweetest hen and would fly up to the top of the roost for me to pet her and give her treats. Then she would cluck and tell me about her day as I tended to the chores in the hen house..

From the feed back.. sounds like yall had a great POOPS.. and congrats to the winner of the traveled package..lol.. .. Funny since I mailed that box off I was coming across so many neat Chicken related items.. UGGGG.. oh well there is always next year.. Just because I moved to NEW YORK doesnt mean I dont try to represent OKIE LAND.. In fact I had the pleasure of trying to describe how these yankee's here are missing out on Fried Okra..lol..

Anyhow a dreary day here..but totally looking forward to the baby chicks I have coming in 2 weeks.. I cant wait to surprize the kids with NN babies.. I miss Yosimite Sam so much... I think I just miss all my animals that I got close with..

I mentioned the critter attack on my GP Baby. Here she is at the vet the day of the attack.

This weekend I went to Texas and picked up some reinforcements.

They might look scruffy and small, but that is 240 pounds of muscle and bone between the two of them. And they are still pups, born March of last year. Raised on pasture their whole lives, and they work it like pros.

And they like to collect stickers, apparently. :)

Baby got backup!

Yeah Buster. Hope this cuts down on the vet trips & keeps the birds safe. I always like to know my dogs are earning their keep. The neighbors got new mini horses this weekend & they got out in the rd. the dogs quickly got the horses back where they belong. I could really use a snake catching dog around here, then we would be doing real well.

aint no way i am gettin tween that heifer and some chickens!

she would hurt a man trying to keep her way from chickens!

i know she's mean, she beat me up twice!

Well, you should have learned after the first time, she can't be accountable for your lack of learning!

That's for the "heifer" comment, and
smack.gif
one more for good measure!
