***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hi all, just now getting on after Poops, would like to thank all that had a hand in making it a wonderful time! My kids and I really enjoyed it. I actually got home with one less chicken than I took!!!  Don't know how that happened!!! Well I should be getting my internet hooked back up this week so maybe I can keep up with the goings on!!!  Have a great day all!!! , Lynn

I took six chickens and came home with four! Gonna shoot that average all to heck though, since I'm going to try and meet up with jcatblum and buy some keets from her! :gig

Thank you very much for the info. They sell that late? I'm like the chickens i get up early and go to bed early...you probably won't have to worry about seeing my chickens....I doubt if I can make it. DARN!
Sure need to thin out the birds here, hatching more every day!

Hi all. I'm a newbie on the site located in Tulsa. I've been in and out of this site before but have never posted. Everyone seems really nice and I would like to introduce myself with a small issue I have at the moment.
This year is our first backyard flock. Everything has been great and we are enjoying all of our birds. We have two EE's, two BR's and four straight run golden laced polish. The issue is that out of the four Polish, we got three boys. My urgency is to find them a home before they really start crowing. Being that we are in the city limits, unfortunately we can only have the girls around.
We purchased these fellas for ten $ each, and that is all I would ask for each one, or if someone has golden laced hens that would be willing to trade, that would be suitable too. The largest roo of the three is a real looker and the other two are just starting to have their crests fill in well.
If you have any other suggestions, or if you are interested, lemmie know. Thank you in advance to everyone. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them uploaded.

Those colors are very pretty, Jim! I wish you lots of luck finding them homes. This is a good place to start.
You might also try Craigslist.

Joe, will you be able to tell male from female by then?? I'm way excited!!! Are they hatched yet? I'll pay you ahead of time if you'd like. Just PM me. I do want them very badly. I always have room for more girls :) And if a BBR boy is in the batch I bet I could find room for him, too.

Hi James,

Those are some pretty roos! Do you ever get close to the Shawnee area? I have a son that is loving the polish. He would like one of those boys I am sure. I will have to check with the hubby to see if we can get any closer to you.

Howdy everbody! I am tired today. Spent the day weeding the garden and cleaning out all the coops. Then I moved babies around rearranged everything. One of these days I am going to get things just the way I like it.

I had a tragedy today. Today was supposed to be hatch day for the button quail I got from Newcastle. Well my hubby didn't realize my bator was plugged into this one power strip with a few other things and just turned the strip off instead of unplugging his device. That was around 7am. I did not realize it until noon.

I am so devastated. I had babied those eggs along and was so looking forward to this hatch. I turned the bator back on of course but I know there is no hope. I just sat down and cried. I even had the brooder all set up special for them.

I guess I will have to talk to BFrancis and see if I can buy some more eggs and try again. It really has me bummed though.

So much for making the attempt to keep up.
But, I figured I'd take a break from anything having to do with school to check in.
The two girls I got from Poops got out of their enclosure Sunday and I figured they'd be fine since my other two were being good to them.
That was until one flew over the fence long enough to lay an egg by the front door and get attacked by my neighbor's two husky puppies.
She's fine though, with only a couple of superficial scraps and a few missing feathers.
Aside from that, I have come to believe that school can and possibly WILL kill me just before I finish.
Any-who,
I hope everyone well (And Sane as can be :D) I've gotta crawl back into my hole and get back to the studies.
I hope that when I crawl back out that I will have a bit more time to spend talking with my favorite Okies.

If you can get them there and get them in the line...you might be able to go ahead and consign them. At Newcastle, you can leave your mailing address and they will send your check after fees. I don't know if it is the same for Blanchard. Someone will chime in with more information.

Shellie...what was the temperature when you caught the error and do you put quail eggs in lockdown? I'm so sorry...

OkieT,
Please keep us posted on the Mutt and Jeff pair. It is such a heart-warming story. The Cochin will grow alot more. LFs really don't finish till they are 2 years old. It will be neat to see them together.

Deanne , thanks for the luck you sent for my pullet :) It must have worked. I took her up there this morning and he did a re-check and said he didn't feel anything but food in there. It's gone down a lot over the weekend. He said he did find just a small amount of yeast on the stain after I left Friday so he sent some meds home for that plus said to keep her on the meds for bacteria also. He probably got enough of it out Friday when he flushed her so she could digest the rest.

Les, thanks for the info on the quitter eggs. This one in question just *looks different than the others. There's veins but only a few. I suppose if I wait a day or 2 those will be absorbed. I don't think it's alive but I'm not positive enough that I'm willing to put it in the freezer just yet.

Christina, the history on Fat Louie cracked me up lol! I know how your DD feels. My very 1st hatch was my LF Cochins. That batch will always be my favorites. I don't feel so bad about my 1 LF Fav girl being bald after I heard you've got that problem, too. I don't think it'd even help if I got the boy even more more hens. She's his favorite and won't leave his side, she just makes it too easy for him. I've considered separating them til her head feathers grow back but they'd both be miserable and as soon as they were together the same thing would happen. ANd for the record-if I had 50 Guinea keets at my house I'd be staying at the Motel 6 :-O

Robin, that Silkie/Cochin cross is adorable :)) I'm too scared to breed crosses yet, I want to wait and see if I'll be able to find homes for the purebred boys. My luck nobody will want boys, purebred or not.

Brandy, your 1st egg?? Is Bonnie one of the Red Stars? I remember how excited I was when my precious Cochin girls laid their 1st eggs-all on the same day. I saved them, I'll keep them forever.

Nana, I came soooo close to getting some d'Anvers eggs the other day. I got the Plymouth Rock bantams instead. There was a Dun Cuckoo color that Boggy Bottoms has that I'd love to get. Is there anything cuter than those Cochin babies though??? Your hands are so pretty holding that frog. Poor frog though, I'd never be able to kill him and eat him. I adore toads and frogs.

OkieT-Chalk one up for Seramas! I know my little Serama boy is one of the highlights of my life every single day. What a happy ending for him and the little Cochin both :)

Joe, I had no idea you had Araucanas. Alright, all of you are being forewarned.....I'm trying to talk Joe out of some Araucanas. I need you all to back off before it comes to blows
gig.gif

Joe, It makes me wonder how many other breeds you've got that I've looked for and couldn't find. I'd even gladly take a boy if he was one of the BBR. My God, those birds are gorgeous.
Oops, forgot the pics I was going to post. The little Bantam Fav girl who seems to be better now and one of the little LF Silver Laced Cochins that hatched Saturday while I was at POOPS.
Both are so sweet.

I mentioned the critter attack on my GP Baby. Here she is at the vet the day of the attack.

This weekend I went to Texas and picked up some reinforcements.

They might look scruffy and small, but that is 240 pounds of muscle and bone between the two of them. And they are still pups, born March of last year. Raised on pasture their whole lives, and they work it like pros.

And they like to collect stickers, apparently. :)

Baby got backup!
Did you ever decide what varmit did that? I am always so impressed with the courage and instincts of those dogs.
