Good morning everone

! I have a simple question that maybe someone on here can help me with. What is the correct way to say and spell Orpington? I have come across folks who say it with a PH (f) sound and with a distinguishable P sound, which is it? From what I have read it makes since to me that it should be spoken and written with a P sound. I don't know why this bothers me so much, but it does.

After about 10 days away from my home computer, I am delighted to be home and am looking forward to reading backward on the posts to see what has been going on in my absence.
My project this morning is to figure out a place to put all the hens with chicks that were in cages when I left OKC on the 18th. My husband has been caring for all the critters in my absence and has decided all those cages with hens and new chicks are a LOT of work and there has to be a better way to house them.

Guess we will be putting chicken wire around the bottom of some empty dog run style pens this morning, so they can be released from cages into an area where more than one group of hens and chicks can be fed and watered at the same time.

As time permits, I will read old posts. My laptop doesn't want to talk to the house wireless router, after its time away from home so repair of that connection will be my project this evening.

Good morning all! Got my outside brooder cleaned and sprayed with bleach so I can move the chicks that are inside out to that one. Still have the sick Rooster. Really wish I knew what to do for him but no one can tell me what to treat him for Moved my 4 week olds out to the run with the older chicks Friday and they are finally starting to warm up to each other. Few more weeks and I should have all the chicks in their run and waiting to be mingled in with the older ones.

Orpington is the way to spell it and say it with the distinguishable "P" sound. They were named for a city in England, Orpington

They're named after the town of Orpington in England. I saw a movie awhile back that was set in England, the lady had a flock of Orpingtons and she pronounced it with a "P". So I'd say that's how to say it. I'm becoming quite sold on them after the 2 I got from Elwood/Bill. I forsee more of them in my future!

They're named after the town of Orpington in England. I saw a movie awhile back that was set in England, the lady had a flock of Orpingtons and she pronounced it with a "P". Thank you! I had a feeling I was correct...lol! I have run across a few folks that say it the other way and I fight real hard with myself not to correct them.

I wanted to make sure and double check myself before I said anything.

I know I miss posts sometimes, or just plain skip them if there are a lot to catch up on, so maybe if you'll post what's going on with your rooster again, someone will be able to help.

What symptoms exactly is your rooster having? I think your request for help awhile back might've gotten buried. I know a select few in the chicken world prefer culling over treating. However I don't believe that to be the case with most of us. Please tell us again what symptoms your rooster has. Between me, Robin and Les (and many others!) we can at least try to help.
ETA: Haha-posted at the same time as Deanne. I seem to be doing that a lot today!
