***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hello everyone hope everyone had a wonderful memorial day
And I was away all weekend...
But I have two trio of bourbon red turkeys
I mainly love my wyandottes, I have silver laced, blue red laced
And blues..
I have thought about raising other breeds just gotta build
More pen space and talk wife into letting me

now see, there's your problem right there! you dont build pens then go get birds, you get birds THEN build the pens!

see, simple. that way you get birds, and permission to build the extra pen space!

i call that a win win!

My little guy is only 5 weeks old. He came inside with some missing wing feathers and was looking sickly. I have had him in here for about a week now and he doesn't seem to be improving. He has had some diarrhea. He is missing more feathers and his eyes seem red to me. I have added in a few pics of him that I took today. I can't afford a vet visit so I am trying to help him best I can without that expense.

This is a little blurry but he is laying down favoring his right side.

If it is bad enough I will have hubby put him down this evening. I don't have the heart to do it. Would like to be able to save the little guy cause he is such a little sweetheart. When I first brought him in he snuggled up against my cheek :(
I was looking through The Chicken Health Handbook for help. Roup (nutritional) has many of the symptoms you mention. According to the book, roup is rare except when homemade rations are fed. Affected systems/organs are eyes, nose, and throat. It appears in chicks 1 to 7 weeks old: droopiness, pale combs, failure to grow followed by sore, swollen eyelids, sticky or cheesy discharge from eyes and nostrils, swollen sinuses, difficulty breathing. It resembles cholera, chronic respiratory disease, infectious bronchitis, infectious coryza, and influenza. It's caused by a vitamin A deficiency. Treatment is water-soluble vitamin A supplement in drinking water; vitamin A injections in severe cases.

No no blood. I haven't seen any with blood.
No blood is good, I dont think its Cocci if not having blood in the stool, all the case I have experienced had blood in the stool pretty early on. That Denagard sounds good, I have not tried it but have heard lots of good stuff about it, I use honey, garlic powder, cayenne powder and cinnamon powder mixed up and give it to my birds when sick with anything, it is good for them and will boost them if nothing else I make it just stiff enough to roll in little pill size balls and put it in their beak and message the throat till it goes down. The gardening gurus out there, what do I still have time to plant????

I have a massive volenteer winter squash that is looking very sad for seemingly no good reason, it is not overrun w/ any insects or disease that I can see. I let it grow b/c I thought even if I don't like whatever cross bred squash it produces it will make chicken food anyway. But if it is already looking sad there is no way it will make it through the summer so I'd rather replace it now. I plan on cutting it back completely or severly and will have quite a bit of room to plant something, just need some ideas of what I still have time for.
Kass - Hatch day is June 1st. I will let you know how many eggs go into lockdown. They're looking good so far : )

Anyone know what color Nathanael's little roo is? Not sure he will be keeping this one, it bites and has tried to flog the cat without being provoked. He got it at Newcastle auction and is just sure he can tame him up but I'm not so sure. He is one little stinker! He sure is pretty but Nathanael can only get him out of his coop with gloves on and then can't hold him where he can bite him or he will. He just started working with him so I will give him a few weeks to see if he can make any progress with him before sending him to a new home.
looks to be golden duckwing, but my glasses are real dirty and my wife isnt here to clean them for me, and i'm not allowed because i might scratch them, and i like being waited on hand and foot by my beautiful wife.

Woo HOoo awesome, I knew it was coming up, but lost track of the exact day. The colors are going to be a complete suprise, all I know is they are NN. I still have no clue about genders on the first batch of NN's.

Thanks for the info on Nathanael's bird, I will stop and get him some walmart brand gainsburgers. I think Nathanael is spoiled because Mr. Red was so easy to tame up. That bird cracks me up he loves Nathanael's attention so much he squables to get out when Nathanael goes out to play in the mornings, will sit in his lap and then puts his head on Nathanael's hand so Nathanael will rub his comb and waddles. I know little about OEGB but we are slowly learning since Nathanael is slightly obsesed with them, lol. I just don't want him to flog Nathanael because that would do well for the little roos future at all.

start him out in a cage, make sure he isnt going to do anything stupid before you let the kid and bird together. you dont want to scare nathanael or the bird, so take it slow.

old english and modern games are extremely smart and quick to catch on. some say they are easier to train than dogs.
