***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I would almost say Cocci but he has been this way for a week most chicks die within a day or so. Have you given him any Save a Chick or vitamins? If not maybe try that. Poor guy hope he gets to feeling better soon.
He was on them at first but then took him off to make sure it wasn't hurting him more. After a few days off I started him back on this morning. He seems to be drinking more now and he has a bigger water supply as well. I though dehydration at first because his first few poops I seen were solid. Then it got runny and was very frquent. Now it is still runny but seems less frequent. Feel so bad for the little guy :(

Try making him a wet mash with his food if he isn't eating and maybe some boiled eggs to up his protien. If he isn't better quickly I would be tempted to start him on a round of antibiotics just to make sure. I always like to say I tried everything possible before putting a bird down.

Anyone know what color Nathanael's little roo is? Not sure he will be keeping this one, it bites and has tried to flog the cat without being provoked. He got it at Newcastle auction and is just sure he can tame him up but I'm not so sure. He is one little stinker! He sure is pretty but Nathanael can only get him out of his coop with gloves on and then can't hold him where he can bite him or he will. He just started working with him so I will give him a few weeks to see if he can make any progress with him before sending him to a new home.

He is a Golden Duckwing Old English Bantam, if you could get Nathanael so of the cheap Ol Roy Burger type dog food(without cheese) and have him give him treats of this through the cage at first, and then with the door open and then work up to setting in a cage with him and let him eat from his hand or on his lap, all the time talking soothingly to the bird, he will tame down I will bet, tell Nathanael to be patient and do not over feed him, just give a few pieces at a time, several times a day, the more he talks to him and handles him the faster he will tame down, I used these treat to help train my OEGB for showing for years, I showed them in 19 different colors, Patients is the trick! The Old English are very territorial, the cocks will defend their territory and their flock to the death if need be, this is what the Cock fighters encouraged to pit birds together!!! Nice looking bird you have Nathanael!!! Lynn

I put him in his new box just before I posted this and he still hasn't pooped. I gave him a bath and dusted with DE in case he has mites or lice. He keeps picking at his back so I think that may be an issue for him.
I am not as good a doctoring as Les is and I would say call Les (PM me for his number) I think he would say give him a shot of Tilan 50, at 1/2 cc in the breast, if you thin it might be Cocci, the Sulmet works well in the water for 5 days at 1 cc per quart of water, then clear water for 3 days and then use vitamins in the water for 5 days is what I do. Call Les he is the man on chicken diseases!!! Lynn

My little guy is only 5 weeks old. He came inside with some missing wing feathers and was looking sickly. I have had him in here for about a week now and he doesn't seem to be improving. He has had some diarrhea. He is missing more feathers and his eyes seem red to me. I have added in a few pics of him that I took today. I can't afford a vet visit so I am trying to help him best I can without that expense.

This is a little blurry but he is laying down favoring his right side.

If it is bad enough I will have hubby put him down this evening. I don't have the heart to do it. Would like to be able to save the little guy cause he is such a little sweetheart. WHen I first brought him in he snuggled up against my cheek :(

The eye looks identical to my little guy with a respiratory infection. Duramyacin-10 has worked wonders for him. Good luck!

Is there blood in his stool?

The gardening gurus out there, what do I still have time to plant????

I have a massive volenteer winter squash that is looking very sad for seemingly no good reason, it is not overrun w/ any insects or disease that I can see. I let it grow b/c I thought even if I don't like whatever cross bred squash it produces it will make chicken food anyway. But if it is already looking sad there is no way it will make it through the summer so I'd rather replace it now. I plan on cutting it back completely or severly and will have quite a bit of room to plant something, just need some ideas of what I still have time for.
