***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kass you can plant fall tomatoes, beans, melons, squashes cucumbers. Think those are the only things we are still planting right now. But I know there is more you can plant still

Anyone know what color Nathanael's little roo is? Not sure he will be keeping this one, it bites and has tried to flog the cat without being provoked. He got it at Newcastle auction and is just sure he can tame him up but I'm not so sure. He is one little stinker! He sure is pretty but Nathanael can only get him out of his coop with gloves on and then can't hold him where he can bite him or he will. He just started working with him so I will give him a few weeks to see if he can make any progress with him before sending him to a new home.

Golden Duckwing.. They do not breed true to color but will produce BB Red, Silver Ducking in females and Silver Duckwing and Golden Duckwing if mated to Silver Duckwing females and Bb Red and Golden Duckwing if mated to BB Red hens.

He is a Golden Duckwing Old English Bantam, if you could get Nathanael so of the cheap Ol Roy Burger type dog food(without cheese) and have him give him treats of this through the cage at first, and then with the door open and then work up to setting in a cage with him and let him eat from his hand or on his lap, all the time talking soothingly to the bird, he will tame down I will bet, tell Nathanael to be patient and do not over feed him, just give a few pieces at a time, several times a day, the more he talks to him and handles him the faster he will tame down, I used these treat to help train my OEGB for showing for years, I showed them in 19 different colors, Patients is the trick! The Old English are very territorial, the cocks will defend their territory and their flock to the death if need be, this is what the Cock fighters encouraged to pit birds together!!! Nice looking bird you have Nathanael!!! Lynn

Excellent advise Lynn, the only thing I do different is to take the actual feed away for the first day, late evening so they are hungry the next day when I go out. If the bite or flog take the food away but allow a taste then work them to feeding from the hand. If they have no other food source and are visited 4-5 times that first day it is very fast.. but limit feed for at least 1 week.

Had another hatching accident today.. they were a day early but apparently I missed the actual date yesterday while working outside came home to nearly 100 already hatched in the incubator, and more trying I moved them all to the hatcher. This is one group I will really just have to raise out to see what they are. I had Birchen and Brown Red both in this hatch and they look the same till they start to color up. The Silver Blue are easy they are Blue and no Brown reds there, The columbians I had 3 matings good thing I tell the difference in them by 6-8 weeks based on body and one by Comb (Rosecomb) The Blue Rosecomb will be easy as will the Birchen Rosecombs since I do not get any Black from the Blue Rosecomb mating and only Black from the Birchen. What a mess loosing track of dates is.. This may just be a group of sale birds so I dont have to worry about it.

I'd love to see how the little ones have feathered out. I keep meaning to tell you that one of my cockerals is colored very similarly to Channing, but without the brown on the wings. I"ll try to get a picture of him to show you. He's a doll. Channing is gorgeous, too. You've got quite the little fella with him and his fun personality.
I'll get some pictures here in the next 10 minutes! They're super pretty, their feathering is like silk strands.

My little guy is only 5 weeks old. He came inside with some missing wing feathers and was looking sickly. I have had him in here for about a week now and he doesn't seem to be improving. He has had some diarrhea. He is missing more feathers and his eyes seem red to me. I have added in a few pics of him that I took today. I can't afford a vet visit so I am trying to help him best I can without that expense.

This is a little blurry but he is laying down favoring his right side.
If it is bad enough I will have hubby put him down this evening. I don't have the heart to do it. Would like to be able to save the little guy cause he is such a little sweetheart. WHen I first brought him in he snuggled up against my cheek :(

I remember that boy! He was in with the Crele cockerel I got the same night. I wanted him but I saw you bidding on him and just knew it was for your son so I took the other one, he's beautiful.
That's too bad he's a brat. I've never had one like that. The one I ended up with is hilarious, walks around like John Wayne because he's bow-legged

The only thing I've ever done to tame them up is pick them up and hold them. They may not like it at 1st but after about 15 minutes they always seem to fall asleep.

Here you go, Deanne. The boy is bigger than Channing, the girl is smaller. I just love their color. They feel like a Silkie, not stiff feathered even though it almost looks stiff feathered.
Thank you very much for them, awesome personalities. I'll never get the girl away from my daughter now but it's just as well because the 2 grew up together and are great together.

Well we don't have plans on breeding him we have lots of bacholers around here, lol. Nathanael didn't get to work with him today since he was gone to work with me all day but he can take away food tomorrow and start from there. This little roo just likes to start fights with anything he can. Even tried picking a fight with Jack's little banty cochin roo but he is so laid back it didn't work, lol. Yes Mitzi that is him, and brat is right. But hopefully soon Nathanael will have him eating out of his hand.

Well looks like the weather is getting her. I checked on all the birds to make sure everyone was ready, hopefully they have the brains to get out of the hail if it comes. Their runs are covered by wire but that won't stop hail.

Jim it is funny you compared the OEGB to dogs, we tell Mr. Red he isn't a dog all the time. He will heard the dumb guineas and they let him.

Lynn, LOL on the pullets we joke when Nathanael isn't listening that that Mr. Red probably likes his comb rubbed almost as much as well, you know (small kids reading an all, haha)

i need the rain for our veggie garden. makes it easy to weed and the yummy stuff grow fast.

Gonna head to the feed store in the morning and see what can get for him. Am now dealing with another sick cockeral(I think its a he. If so it's my Elvis!) He is sneezing and has some clicking when he breaths. *Sigh* He is one of my Spitzhaubens and I wanted them from the moment I saw one! I only have 2. The other has 2 nubby toes.
