Er, sorry. I seem to have posted the same picture five times because my computer locked up and wouldn't actually tell me it loaded it. Now I'm just going to edit all the posts so it doesn't look quite so annoying. Move along folks. Nothing to see here.

Only three eggs of my four hatched under my first broody. I candled the other one and it was obviously clear. Not her fault she can't hatch an infertile egg. I'm going to call it a 100% hatch rate.

For all u guys that want nice show quality birds u don't want to miss this auction there make some county fair project from three different poultry judges .buff leghorn light brahma . orpington in .blue .black .buff .wyandotte in white .columbian all large fowl .bantams in buff Brahma .wyandotte in partridge .black barred white .modern in brown red .lemon blue .old English in many colors .

What r yall's thoughts about chicken leashes or harnes ? Thinking about bringing pet roo freckles but he won't want to stay in a cage at the meet in Muskogee thinking about getting him a leash so he can come with me.

Here's my take on it if it were me...there are going to be tons of folks there and tons of birds....not every bird will be from an NPIP flock. As you've read from the last few days of post, folks got sick birds. Do you want to bring your bird to a place were he could catch any disease imaginable? Or take any illness back to your flock? People put auction birds in quarantine for a reason, will you put your guy in quarantine for 30 days after the meet? Those are questions I'd be asking myself.

(As for me, I'm taking a huge oxine sprayer and will spraying my shoes and every cage before I even put it them back on my truck and trailer before I go home. That's how paranoid on avian illness I am)

Now, not to sound harsh, ever walk a rooster on a leash? With that many people and kids trying to shop do you think they want to walk over a chicken on a leash?

Anyway, you asked, and that's my 2 cents.

Finally got our coop (via Craigslist) and a small run (we are hoping to be able to free range at some point)- excited for NEOCS we are going to try to be there and get some CHICKENS!!! Except I think my hubby has chicken fever and he may run out and buy some TOMORROW because it is killing him and he just can't wait!

When we finished the run today my daughter just had to climb in and check it out. I told my husband, "Forget the chickens- we've got ourselves a child-cage!!!

Oh, and I just couldn't resist posting a picture of our honey from this year's harvest- it is absolutely the most gorgeous, clearest, lightest honey I have ever seen!

Chickens do not like leashes. (Personal experience speaking here.) To my knowledge, they don't like crowds either. I bet the rooster would be a whole lot happier staying at home. And then you have to consider the very real chance of communicable diseases.

Nice coop! Tell your hubby to be patient, there will be lots of cool chickens at NEOCS, and will have a better idea where they are coming from that way.

My youngest is four as well. Maybe we should build one big enough for all of them!
