Go to Mary's Flea Market on 23rd in MWC on Saturday and there'll be more hens than you know what to do with.

looks like 6 ee chicks, an ee cockerel, some hatching eggs.... will serarate chicks tonite, gosh i feel guilty taking them from the mamas... but they'll get over it right???

coral, how is lucky adapting to life over there??? the drake is so soft spoken... and the girls are happy ducks!
Lucky is doing fine. He's enjoying the dust bathing box in his pen, and he gobbled some watermelon after I finished feeding and watering everyone today.

I'm happy to hear the drake is fitting in. My remaining drake is now in charge of the all the females, and there are two vying for the spot as first wife. They bring him bits of food and shoulder up to him when he sits down. They are going to wear themselves out trying to impress him. When there were two drakes, all the females spent their time trying to run away. The behavior I'm seeing now is a complete opposite.

Need to finish making cards to mark the spaces in the barn for N.E.O.C.S. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. It's going to be fun

I agree with KSane, who suggested Mary's Swap Meet. I also suggest you figure out what is wrong with your RIR hen first. If she's got a communicable disease, and you don't get rid of her (or treat her and get a management plan in place to continually treat for illness because chickens tend to become carriers of illnesses, especially respiratory disease) and totally disinfect your coop first, you're just going to lose another chicken.

Well, I didn't do a half bad job putting that tarp up in the dark at 3 a.m. with rain falling in sheets and lightening flashing all around me, if I do say so myself! Didn't even have to move any zip ties this morning.

And lookie here! My Dominique hen came through the storm just fine with all her chicks. She didn't lose a one! I'm so proud of her. She just earned her lifetime retirement pass.

is there anything i need to do to completely disinfect my coop other than just clean all the stuff out and spray it down with the hose?

Yes. Water won't kill germs, and without soap, hot water and scrubbing, it won't even remove bacteria. and if you have something like a mycoplasma in there it will live for up to three weeks even if you get rid of every bird. I use oxine currently, but it has to be ordered off the internet. Just plain ol' hot soapy water scrubbing, then spraying down with a 10% bleach solution will work just fine. Of course, your birds have to be somewhere else while you do that.
