***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Had a great time at NEOCS meeting new folks and visiting and catching up with the folks I already knew. Looking forward to the next one!

Really need to toss out a public, "Thanks!" to Sixshooter and his DW, they helped me load my truck and clean up before they left...always a great time getting around those two!

Old Cowboy and banjojoe was awesome as auctioneers...sixshooter and others were bringing the birds through, seemed liked they had been working together for years...

Didn't get to make it around much...pretty busy in my little "store", wished I could have seen everyone else's wares. Did get to bring home some awesome honey though! Thanks lonnyandrinda!

Thanks sir for the fine comments. It was a 5 hour drive over there, Motel stay, hot standing in the middle of that barn for however many hours the auction went, then 5 hour drive back. It does my heart good to see ONE person that thought we did good. Anyhow, it was good visiting with you and meeting sixshooter. Met some other good folk there also. Lots of Gamefowl folks over that part of the world, was good to talk to several of them.

Wanted to mention that the reserves for the items entered in the "Pay the Seller" auction were noted by the sellers on the cards attached to the cages or items. In many cases, the sellers actually accepted less than their listed reserve. The auctioneers did a good job of trying to get the bids up to the reserves--and more when they could.

Coral and her crew did an excellent job of putting this event together. What an organizer! You couldn't even tell there were a couple of hitches in the event from observing Coral--she's really good at keeping her cool!

You know, I had never been to an auction before yesterday. (Well, not technically true, as I met Jcatblum at an auction in Blanchard to pick up my keets, but I didn't go near the auction, just hung out back looking at the chickens.) I had a lot of fun. The two auctioneers were great. I could always understand them, no matter how fast they were talking. I had this idea in my head that auctions were kind of scary and you could end up accidentally buying something for way more than you wanted to pay just because you were scratching your nose while the guys talked a mile a minute! I would do another auction any time if those guys were there. It was kinda fun.

Guy, did you'all drive straight through last night or stop again? 5 hours one way is long way to go, glad you made the trip. I always like going places where there are a few folks I already know.

Got to meet Miss Betsy's DH yesterday too...awesome gentleman.

When I got home yesterday, came home to a good surprise, one of my buddies from Kansas sent me a couple cartons of Butler Bob White eggs...going in the 'bator tonight. His birds are huge.

i thought the whole thing went as could be expected. some were happy, some werent.

i thought it was a get together for byc chicken people with a few others thrown in for the fun of it, didnt know it was going to be a regular swap meet.

did get to say hi to a few people i wanted too, then hung around longer than we wanted to see the circus.

i see why a lot of the members have gone from byc.

i hope coral does it again next year with better results.i will not be there, and probably wont be back on the board.

byc was supposed to be for people to get together and chat about raising birds, it has strictly become an outlet for people selling overpriced birds because "they come from here" or "they come from there".

see my freinds somewhere else, yes i do have some.

It has been a long and emotional afternoon for me. We had one of the barred NN's get injured several weeks ago, got trapped between a wall and a nestbox for most of the day before we noticed and rescued him. We hand fed and watered him for the rest of the day (it was a hot day) really thought he wouldn't make it b/c of the heat and dehydration, but at first he seemed to do really well had some trouble walking but could manage. Over the past week he worsened to the point he was unable to get around at all, we isolated him w/ food and water away from the others thinking if he didn't have to compete he would recover, but it was not to be. So even though he is still on the small side I decided to cull and practice caponizing (after death) and then to process. This was my first one to be emotionally able to process after the mercy kill. Since he was so small I only kept the breasts and legs to eat, they are in the fridge in salted ice water now.



CORAL ...................... I need another capon lesson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's just a good thing the poor guy was already dead.

I think the whole event, auctioning included was a sucess. And Cowboy the fact that you were willing to do the work even w/ a 5 hr drive each way is quite impressive!!!!! And on a personal note I smile every time I see one of my new "ladies", they aren't very "us" friendly yet but they are simply beautiful and can't wait until they are fully integrated into our flock.
