I bellyacked earlier about the drive etc. Sorry, didnt mean to come across as a whiner, but so dang sore today cant hardly function so had to vent. I had a blast at the swap. I sold some stuff and talked to some good folks. Met some new folks that I will call friends from now on. Met some folks that shared my same interests and liked the same type fowl as I raise. Sold several young asils, and a few American games. Some leather, lots of Gamefowl hats, books and chicken ceramics and a few knives. I think it was great that this was more than a BYC reunion. The fact that it was advertised as a swap to the public is why I drove the 5 hours over and would again. All the auctions across the state are ok to get rid of extra birds. But it is much nicer to have a swap where you can control the price and where they go. If it was a closed affair yesterday, I probable would have hauled most of my birds home because there isnt that large of following for my fowl on BYC. Again I had a good time and now I can add auctioneer to my resume

Cathie, we got the 5' welded wire at Lowe's. It was......$50 for a 50' roll (had to look). The 4' is $66 for 100'. I really wanted the 5' and it came to like $17 per 50' more but it's not like we have to put it up every month. What we did on the pens is use 3 roof panels per 10x10 pen.That way over 1/2 the pen is covered and they're protected from rain but we didn't have the expense of covering the whole thing. My husband and daughter have the roof panel building down to an art now.

I have a few question for those that use the big waterers and Oxine.  1) How much Oxine do you use per gallon in a waterer?  We bought 5 gallon waterers and I love them but want to keep alge from growing in them.  2) How often do you change the water in a big waterer?  I have 6 of the 5 gallon ones and 1 of the 7 gallon ones.  I really want some 3 gallon ones too but those will have to wait until next month.  Right now I am changing the water every other day. 

I never change the water. Have 5to 7 gallon waterers all over the place and they empty them daily.

Buster I figure once the real hot weather gets here they will drain them daily. I have one 7 gal one with 18 hens and it lasts 2 days. the 5 gallon ones are with 9-16 l
LF birds mostly 10-12 week chicks. All the other pens have 2 gallon rubber water bowls. Those I fill 3 times a day because the get so much dirt and ick in them. Maybe mu solution is to get more birds so they empty them daily, lol. Hubby would just LOVE that idea I'm sure, hehe.

Yea, the media doesn't always care what the actual facts are, they want to make the story exciting. And with all the people and confusion going on it would've been hard to get the actual facts that day.

What an incredibly productive weekend I had.

Got up early Saturday and started heating the scald water for processing and set up all the equipment. Filled the coolers with eggs for the farmers market. Made $280 in sales in 3 hours before running out. I came home early to start processing. Did 21 birds, took a nap, then bagged and tagged them for the fridge. Did the mid day feeding and watering, then headed for Newcastle where we upped our layer numbers a bit. Drove home and put all the new birds in their respective places. Fed and watered all the goats, dogs, turkeys, and chickens before going to bed at midnight.

Got up at 5 this morning and drove to Fort Worth to visit oldest daughter and grandbaby. She took us along with her hubby to this beautifully rustic mexican restaurant call Joe Garcia's I think where the menu is limited to fajitas, enchiladas, and tacos to eat a wonderful meal of beef fajitas. Visited till 6, drove home and took care of the birds, dogs, and goats. Weighed out the processed chickens for delivery tomorrow after work, then to bed.

Best fathers day weekend I have had in a long long time.
