***OKIES in the BYC III ***

What an incredibly productive weekend I had.

Got up early Saturday and started heating the scald water for processing and set up all the equipment. Filled the coolers with eggs for the farmers market. Made $280 in sales in 3 hours before running out. I came home early to start processing. Did 21 birds, took a nap, then bagged and tagged them for the fridge. Did the mid day feeding and watering, then headed for Newcastle where we upped our layer numbers a bit. Drove home and put all the new birds in their respective places. Fed and watered all the goats, dogs, turkeys, and chickens before going to bed at midnight.

Got up at 5 this morning and drove to Fort Worth to visit oldest daughter and grandbaby. She took us along with her hubby to this beautifully rustic mexican restaurant call Joe Garcia's I think where the menu is limited to fajitas, enchiladas, and tacos to eat a wonderful meal of beef fajitas. Visited till 6, drove home and took care of the birds, dogs, and goats. Weighed out the processed chickens for delivery tomorrow after work, then to bed.

Best fathers day weekend I have had in a long long time.
Sounds like a very good weekend Buster, we processed 150 ears of corn, countless squash, 17 quarts of kraut, bought another deep freeze, moved the incubator, hatcher, and sorting table and set up the pantry to support all the canned goods.

sorry i have not been on since the meet. My weekend has been crazy! Got a hook up with some scrap lumber for building some small coops so i picked that up sunday morning. Got the truck loaded then picked up my mom. She is now the proud momma of porcilan mill flurs and there are two other flur types in there. Plus they came with two gold laced cochins. Then was off todo fathers day. On the way home from that got a flat. Picked dinner up. feed the youngings and unloaded lumber then started removing nails from boards. picked afew goods from the garden and then it was time to turn in.

I just wanted to make myself clear on something I said earlier about the auction. I thought Joe and Old Cowboy did a wonderful job as hosts. They did everything they were supposed to do, especially on such short notice. I was going to buy some chickens twice and on one bid that won, the guy changed his mind and said he wouldn't go that low. It was $3.00 less than his original asking price. I just felt like if he didn't want to sell them at that price, he should have made that clear beforehand because I do understand what a reserve price is but thought since they were taking lower bids that the seller was willing to part with them for a bit less since no one else was bidding. This in NO WAY had anything to with the emcee and auctioneer. They were trying to be as helpful as they could so thank you Joe and Old Cowboy for a job well done. I am still learning about the auction process so I am in no way an expert on this either.

I thought the whole event was wonderful. I really enjoyed myself other than the heat. I agree that the middle of the barn was much warmer than other parts. I personally did not come prepared. I should have brought more food, drinks and a big ole fan! Live and Learn though. I will be better prepared for the next meet.

Next time I really need to focus on talking to a few more people but for those that I did get to talk to, it was a pleasure to meet you all. My grandson is gonna love the OEGB's I bought. When I got home, my kids said "Don't tell me, you got more chickens!"

As a result, I have been working hard all day to build some smaller coops for the Bantams. I am building a 4 X 8 run with a 2 X 4' coop area for the trio. I'm gonna build three of them. Pray for me, I'm gonna need it! I am sooooo exhausted from working on it all day but wouldn't change a thing. I love my chickens! Already thinking about more chickens and coops I am still wanting! Back to work tomorrow.

By the way, I commend all of you that have built smaller A-frame coops. Tried it and absolutely COULD NOT figure out how to get my angles right with the height I needed. I could get the angles right on the bottom base but couldn't figure out how to get them together at the right height. Decided to go with a rectangular box type coop. It's not straight either but I'm no carpenter. I am getting better at all of the time and I did my best. Will take some pics and post them in a day or two.
it was good to meet you and every one else there also. cant wait for the next meet

Hello everyone. How is everybody today? So my DW has really gotten into making jelly here lately and I was wondering if anyone know were you can buy the old style jelly jars at? And were to get A LOT of diffrent kinds of fresh fruit?
I was just on pinterest and a friend had pinned this site. . . .www.jarstore.com IDK if that will help?

CJarvis.

Thank you so much for the plans. I can cut a 45 degree angle so MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, I will be able to follow your plans and start an A-frame as soon as I complete this saltbox of a pen I'm working on. Having the lengths of the lumber is a huge help to me. That was my main problem. Not know how long the A boards should be for the width of the pen. Thank you. Thank you.

Well, gotta get ready for work. You all have a great day!

By the way, as most of you know, I am afraid of the circular saw so I went and bought a jigsaw. It is not a perfect cutting tool but is much easier than the handsaw. Seems to be working pretty good so far.

Ha! You'd call him "The Brig" for short, of course. Edited to add: Although, if you don't want to name him that, my little Cochin roo is going wanting for a name.

It's not really her own web page, it's just her own album on imgur. I should write a web page for her though.

Okay, which one of the four chicks made the earrings? I need to figure out how to order more. I knew better, I really shouldn't have worn them until I bought those little silicone thingies to go on the back. I always lose french wires. My little rooster came out and got lost first time I wore them yesterday.

So, now I need to save up and buy some more.
