They are just for looks, smile!! We built the coop early spring, before I found BYC. I wish the yard was twice as long, for when we are gone a day or two.

Probably part of the reason you feel he's bigger and nastier than everyone else is cause he's the breed bred for quick growth and large breasts. He's not meant to be a pet, he's meant to be eaten. Not that those breeds can't be kept as pets, people do, they just take more consideration than other breeds.

O NO!!!!! Does this mean he will have problems? Health wise. . . . My brother bought him as a birthday gift. Great, I could never bring myself to eat him. . . . .Will he have a short life?

It just depends on how much care you give him. Don't let him eat himself to death :) They aren't as bad as the cornish x chickens, so you probably will be okay. You mostly have to worry about them growing too fast for their body stucture to handle, just moderate his food intake and he'll probably be fine.

He's gonna get huge and he's gonna require a LOT of food when he's full grown.

This page is for the bronze, but it mentions what I'm talking about, if you don't restrict the food they're structure can't take the weight. Maybe you'll be lucky and what you have it actually a holland? I didn't realize they are incredibly similar to the white broad breasted, but stay a little bit smaller and don't have as many problems.

Back, now that the beets are in the water bath canner. 14.5 quarts of pickled beets from 1/2 bushel...should set us for the year. I still have beets in the garden too.

Need some help identifying this shrub. It was planted as a wind break probably 20 years ago and has spread thru root runners. It spread because no one was taking care of the property after it sold. A friend has bought it and we are helping clean it up. I'm going to get some small plants to start here. Just need to know what it is. The bushes are about 15 - 20 feet tall and have multiple trunks.
Here are three pics to help.
The leaves are palmate with lanceolate shape. There is a serrated edge and pinnate veining. They are in opposite arrangement on the stem, The leaves are slightly fuzzy not glossy. The tiny blooms are blue, purple and white. They smell a little like sage but not strong.

The tender wood is square but the older stems are round and have a nice gray mottling on the bark. It seems to be a hard wood. Hubby is going to make canes and walking sticks from some of the straighter branches. The ones in this picture are 1 inch in diameter.

I love the pictures and if there's 1 or 2 with a dial up connection then maybe they should ask that people don't hit 'quote' and re-post pictures over and over instead of blaming the OP. I certainly don't want to miss out on the original pictures. I recall Joe asked permission to post pictures and quite a few people responded with "yes!" If there's certain people who tend to post pictures of show or pet chickens (myself included) perhaps you could put them on ignore if that's not your area of interest. That would certainly be much better than taking the time to post a snide remark trying to upset someone. Just my humble opinion, of course.

I've got 4 Araucana hatched out of the 8 eggs and 3 others are pipped, way excited. 1 pipped and died but I just may end up with 7 if I'm lucky. Most are solid gray which I really wanted. I feel like I'm putting people out by posting pictures now so I'll hold off on pics

. Maybe later if people say it's ok.
