***OKIES in the BYC III ***

i think if you are proud of your chickens and want to show them to your friends on BYC it should not matter if its is 1 picture or 10 picture we and all chicken lovers and would love to see them and it should not matter if it is this person or that person we are all here really for one reason we all love chickens and you shouldnt put someone down or talk bad about there bird cause what they like you might not and what you like they might not but that does not change that we are all here because we love CHICKENS

I reckon folks can do what they like, within the rules. And there are no rules about the number of pics someone can post. It was merely a suggestion to take into consideration, and people are free to ignore it.

I would correct you on one thing, though. I don't love my chickens. I like them fine, some more than others, but love none of them. Sooner or later, they are ALL going to end up on a dinner plate, so I go out of my way not to get attached. Ironically, I like my Cornish Cross best, and they are all destined for freezer camp in the very near future.

I do love my dogs, though, and don't plan to eat them.

You will need extra support for the roof since the dirt will add tremendous weight. Then water is 8 pounds per gallon so that is additional weight. A rubber roof liner with good drainage is a must. Looked into it for the well house several years ago. Decided against it.
Alternatives include:
Window boxes attached to the side walls will give the appearance of greenery
A trellis attached to the side will train plants up and over the coop.

I saw online somewhere, can't remember where now, someone had a kind of apron thing, with pockets in it for dirt, and they had planted things in those pockets and hung it on their a frame. It was made out of a type of landscaping plastic. I was going to try to recreate it using used feed sacks. Worst that can happen is I throw it away.

Well, I feel the need to use some bad language but the stupid software on our board would just bleep it out anyways, so filth and foul, dirty word, blankety-blankin' HAWKS!

Was letting my mama and her bitties out in the yard, but since we have hawks around I was staying right with them. And by "right with them" I mean, I didn't even sit my lazy butt in a lawn chair, but stood in the middle of them while they all foraged around my feet. This bold son of a biscuit eatin' red-shouldered hawk dive bombed 'em anyway. I screamed and threw my cell phone at the worthless thing (actually hit him too, he was that frickin' close!) and he took off and roosted in a tall tree in my front yard and eyed 'em like they were the tastiest thing on the buffet. Mama had enough of it and called 'em all back into the ark. I closed 'em up again and got my green laser pointer and ran him off with that, but he'll be back. So freaking mad right now. Stupid thing. Why can't he just eat gophers and mice, for cryin' out loud?

Edited to add: I think wild animals that don't have a normal amount of fear of human beings are a great big stinkin' nuisance.

For those who mix your own feeds from feed mills...

I noticed my Cornish Cross were not growing like they should on my home mixed blend of mostly grains. After much digging around, I found they are missing the key amino acid methionine, which is mostly available through animal proteins. The sources I found for adding it to my mix are fishmeal. synthetic methionine, Fertrell NutriBalencer, and Akey DL-Methionine. The fishmeal and nutribalancer I can get through Fertrell, but have no idea where to get Akey products.

Anyway, adding some of this stuff should help my birds grow out at 7 and 8 weeks like they should, rather than still being puny at 10 and 11 weeks.

I was going to do clematis till i priced them at lowes, so i took a hike and cut some starts from honeysuckle- maybe next year i'll plant clematis seed...:)
Does clematis start from cuttings???? I have two varieties and if someone could tell me how to propogate it your welcome to starts of it Robin. One has a larger reddish purple bloom the other is blue purple and smaller blooms.
