***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well hubby did good yesterday buying supplies for coops. found enough fencing for me and Kurt to put together a 10x20, 10x10 and two 4x8 pens last night and then put tops on them all this morning. We had a friend give him a 10x8 pen with the top covered already just to get it out of his yard!!!! so my Rooster pen is now out by the garden,have my FBCM's in the 10x10 and my SLW and RIR's moved to one of the small pens and Kurt's cochins in the other. We didnt get all of the 10x20 covered on top with wire so will have to finish that this week after work. But the best thing is my guineas are now in a big hoop house and all the chicks that had been in brooders in the house are moved outside!!!

I know everyone keeps talking about the heat but really it is almost July so the weather has been great so far. I am going to pick up a small fan for my two girls that are broody. But that will be it until fireworks are over then we can think about misters and such but unless it gets bad like last year I dont plan in those. All our pens are in the shade and the only ones panting so far are my barred rock grow out pen.

Ocean glad to see your baby home!!!! That is great someone found him.

Hated to miss the auction but we will be there after July 4th ready to catch up with everyone!!!

dont remeber who it actually was, lots of people posting and haveing fun. lots of joking and carrying on with each other, and it may have been more or lees than a month, i didnt know i had to worry about being exact on when it was.
way quieter now, mabey it is just the weekend thing.
i didnt say people werent having fun, and that there wasnt any good info, just said it wasnt like it was.

i have a blue golden laced cochin F2 chick that is looking great but without my black berry i can't tak pics

i do have a digatal camera but the blackberry has a much higher resauation mabee i can steal my wifes lol

It has ups and downs, there is a lot of good information on here, depending on what your looking for. I have found that there are a lot of lurkers and when there is mention of a get together of some sort them a lot of people come out of the wood work, then it kinda slows down to the regulars afterwards till the next one. I get on all the time but don't always post stuff. Glad to see you on here, I don't think I've had the opportunity to welcome you before. Jump in and make yourself to home. Lynn

Newcastle sale is coming up on the 7th wonder wat they will have to eat this time ...Last sale they had rib's smoked they wer realy good...I have some spotd Donky's for sale or trade if any one need's any they run out with the sheep an goat's ...I dont hear much talk about pigeun's on hear much mine are doing good they like the heat an love taking bath's wen i clean ther bowl's out an put in fresh water ..They look like duck's splashing an floping ther wing's ..The snake's have got some of the baby's an killd one grown bird ..I have some roller's an homer's an a few other's a few white bird's i bot a few week's back they havent mated up yet ..[[[ poco ]] The kid's said they like your avtar the best of all...

ok lets see if i can get this to work this is a BLLUE GOLDEN LACED large fowl cochin i have been wotking on this progect color and im sooooo exsited to see them looking this good the bird in the pic is about 6 weeks old and has just started to show good coloring i can't wait to see him all grown up

Poco, I never answered your eggmobile question.

I have been mostly testing it out on the two front pastures and haven't moved it that often. But I will be moving it this week to the back pastures, will run 328 feet of electric poultry netting around it. I plan to move the the netting around once a week until an area is used up, like spokes of a wheel using the wagon as a hub, then move the wagon and start over again.

Been thinking about the misters and shade thing again and think Joe is right that there is a time and place for it depending on your needs. All my layer breeds are very heat tolerant, but I am worried about my Cornish Cross, which are not heat tolerant AT ALL. I'm thinking misters on a timer might be the answer of getting them to butcher weight. I had planned on having them done by now, but alas they have grown slower than advertised. I'm thinking operator error.

Obviously, if you have no shade on your property, then shade fabric would be the way to go. And if you need to keep them separated in small pens, Joe's setup is probably ideal.

Joe, where would you recommend getting shade cloth, what density do you use, and how much does it run?

Dang it, Joe!! Stop posting pictures of these gorgeous different colored Cochins! I already promised my husband that the little blue frizzle pullet I bought from you would be my last chicken, cross my heart! How am I supposed to keep my promise if you keep posting these drop-dead-gorgeous birds and I keep thinking, "well, I could get just that one, or that one, or that one"?

Seriously though, those are some pretty birds.
