they have a lot more colors of orpingtons in the UK the UK birds are also more rounded bobyed much loser feathered "this make them extermly fluffy " the BEST ORPINGTONS IN THE WORLD COME FROM THE UK AND EUROPE world champion shows are held in germany

also if you go to feathersite and look at the pics of orpingtons almost all of the birds in the pics are UK or EUROPE after seeing the import orpingtons in person there is no dubt in my mind that the birds in the UK and EUROPE are far better than the us line birds

KASS- all my orpintons are in pens with missters and have beem doing well so far
The UK has some amazing Cochins too. Queen Victoria started the "Hen Craze" when she brought Cochins from China and started raising them herself. Over there they are called Pekings not Cochins.

I brought skyfire (my broody girl) out some dubia's this afternoon, I've been bringing her some everyday since she has been broody. Anyway today I also took a couple of already dead ones, she didn't want the dead ones so I just put them on the floor of the coop, then went around to all the waterers making sure everyone had plenty of fresh water when I came back to the coop one of the smallest boys of the teen NN, the barred ones I got from coral was attempting to do the treat call w/ the dead dubias he found. It was adorable, but I warned him not to let Oreo hear him calling his ladies for treats. lol

LOL that might cause some issues! I love our young splash roo is now learning to call his girls for treats just like his daddy. My other roos aren't as vocal with their girls as my Splash Marans. Now my BA roo is somewhat but only when I bring them fermented grains does he call to them. But he is the first roo to get his girls in the coop when a chicken hawk flies over. But I am loving my younger splash roo almost more than I love my big one and they are my favorites! I told dh the other day no way could I sell him he is prettier than his daddy, lol.

yep!! his birds are wonderful for those of us addicted to extra fluff!!

A lot of people got birds from you this month who are very pleased with them.
When I walk out into the adult Araucana trio's yard they actually come running to me. Such nosy darling little birds. My husband was in their yard cutting some tree limbs this weekend and he'd have to keep stopping until they wandered off because they kept running over to see what he was doing. He didn't want to scare them off so he'd just stop and wait for them to move :) The little black hen was playing in the sprinkler, she'd stand in the spray to get all wet, then shake off and run as fast as she could and go preen herself. Then she'd do it all over again lol
thanks mitz you are to kind and im so glad that they whent to somone that loves them as much as me

Decided that the gatoraid 20 oz bottles make perfect ice bottles to put in the chickens water. I slip them in during the heat of the day.

Sounds like my day. Spent 5 hours processing and canning and I've got 4 quarts of peach halves, 2 pints of peach sauce, and a pitcher full of juice for jelly. The birds were happy with the peelings they got at least. Tomorrow we're making the jelly and some peach jam, then canning vegetable soup base and pinto beans. Except tomorrow I'm making my husband do the pressure canning outside on the camp stove. Too much heat for the house otherwise.

I'm jealous of all the tomatoes everyone has now. My plants were beautiful and I got them in early so I've already canned up tomatoes and salsa and put a few in the freezer but now my plants are dead. Some of them just turned brown and died and the others wilted from the top down. I've never had that happen before so I'm puzzled. I still have one cherry tomato plant going. I'm going to start more from seed and hope I get a fall crop. Our squash is doing fine. I've harvested yellow squash hand over fist this summer. We're starting to wonder what to do with it all. But my biggest surprise is that I'm harvesting butternut squash. I have tried to grow it five different times with not a single harvest but for some reason this year it's growing like gangbusters and I only have one plant. We also have Hopi squash growing but so far it's all vine and leaves and male flowers.

Well gonna run and pick a bucket or two of apples here pretty quick and see if I can't make some pectin.

Still don't know if my husband has a job or not. Sigh. He's been off for six days now.
