***OKIES in the BYC III ***

At work I'm doing a wreck repair on a dog house that is used when a workover rig is on location. Had to replace some tubing in the walls and re-skin the front corner. When I started riveting the new panels on would you belive that with a NAPA, O'Rielley's, Atwoods and an Ace Hdwe there were only 250 (5 boxes) of 3/16 rivets in this entire town? I lack one more inside panel and the inside trim and will probably end up going to OKC for what we need.

If the local merchants want us to shop at home they had better increase their stock!!

Isn't it funny how critters take on roles when babys show Les! Our cat isn't to happy about me looking at her babys although she wanted me there when she went into labor. She doesn't mind the wife looking. She had two boys and two girls. Its going to be hard to find homes for the three orange ones because they are just plain and won't be "special" looking to anyone. We will proably keep the hell cat calico. My Ice hen hatched 12 and had two eggs left so I put them under another hen for the night and they hatched! All fourteen eggs hatched, thought that was pretty good concidering the heat we have battled. Had to bring the rabbits into the house today, they were getting just to hot. I really want to keep this start in rabbits but am going to have to figure out a place to keep them better. They are hanging under shade trees now but will need something better for winter. Thinking about getting stacking cages, but they are sure expensive.
Picked the first two tomatoes today. Didn't think they were ever going to start getting ripe. I mailed a lady in Texas some corn seed in may. Heard from her today, they arrived last week! NaNa how do you know when to pick pumpkins? I planted mine to early for fall I'm sure, so I don't know how long its safe to leave them on the vines. I have several white ones about the size of a soccer ball.

I have a question for those worming with medications, what do you do with the eggs that they lay after medicating, how long do you hold back before eating eggs or selling after worming???? I can not worm all my birds at one time due to the fact I have egg orders to fill and will not sell eggs for eating if I am worming the hens. Thanks, Lynn

I've heard a lot of people feed them to other critters or discard them for a while to be safe, I cook and feed them to the dogs, pigs and chickens and all the shells go into the garden for a week to ten days or till I just need to cook and eat eggs again (I eat a lot of eggs LOL)

I was told by someone I work with that Safeguard was good to use for worming pigs and the active ingredient is the same in the pellets made for pigs just a lot cheaper,
I was curious about a warning on the label however, it says, "Not for use in horses intended for human consumption"
I figure it's a given that chickens, pigs etc. are intended for consumption but I thought it was funny that you can't eat your horse after you treat with this wormer made for horses,
I can almost guarantee that if I had a horse and processed it to fill the freezer and ate or intended to eat it you would all be hearing about it all over the news and would be charged with anything the state could find that might carry a fine or jail time LOL
And honestly I really wouldn't see the issue with it as long is it wasn't treated for worms of course,

And that comes back to the question at hand if it's not for use in one animal intended for eating, How does it effect the next animal? How long till the animal (or eggs) would be safe to eat,
The warning label on the Safeguard didn't indicate that the horse would ever be eatable again and maybe that was the point, It's one of those labels that are only meant to stop that one person or group that does or might do that sort of thing like using the hairdryer while in the shower (although I think if you do this it's too late to warn you with a label :)
Stories while I was growing up from my Grandmother while we cleaned carp, buffalo, possums, coons and other animals not normally prepped for the dinner table often had to do with her raising a family during the depression and eating mules and horses and such LOL
I have used ivomectin for cattle and swine (injectable) on my dogs for years and years I give it orally and it works for everything but tapeworms, I did use it as intended on the pigs last week and was sore for the next few days so something I can trick them into ingesting from now on shall be the new standard on my little farm here LOL

Sorry for my rant, I'm going on a few days of limited sleep due to neighbors feeling like it was their duty to pop fireworks till 3 in the morning, I would almost not have issue with it if every time one went off they said or thought, "Happy Birthday America" or something like that, but I'm pretty sure the only thoughts were more like, "Look at the pretty colors

OklaDoodle A ripe pumpkin has a hard shell that does not dent or scratch easily when pressing on it with a thumbnail. Do this on the back or bottom of the fruit, not on the face in case you are going to carve it.
You want to cut the stem at the vine..leaving a nice 2 - 3 inch stem. I store mine on cardboard or a board instead of on the ground or on concrete. So it doesn't sweat or get soft and run the flooring.

Finished setting 15 CW eggs into lockdown for hach on the 7th. Already hearing two babies peeping. None of the cochin eggs made it to lockdown. I have three eggs that are 8 days behind all the other eggs and will move them to a broodie in the morning. It's either that or do some hndturning while the others hatch....don't want to risk the humidity loss.
Bought the two geese a 4 foot swimmimg pool...they were so funny.

Hey, Bill! Your 'rant' reminded me about the warning on a fan belt for a car. It said, "Please turn engine off before replacing belt"

My husband always says the scary part is that they've had to put those warnings on for a reason haha!
