***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Jcat,
You should try Tomatoe Preserves if you have extra tomatoes to spare.. They are simple and great on toast.. My great gandmother made them and we loved them.. I made some last week and many turned thier nose up at the thought then tried them. my granddaughter likes them, our youngest son likes them, my mother took my last jar so I need to make more.

take your very ripe tomatoes, squeze by hand and remove meat from the skin a little skin is no big deal, heat in a pot to near boiling add an equal amount of sugar and reduce to thicken, add 1/2 tsp of vanilla for each 4 cups of tomatoe. place in jars and seal.

Tomato preserves have to be good... Equal tomato & sugar. What could taste bad about that? Will add to my list. I just put about 10 lbs of whole tomatoes in the freezer. They were bruised & not going to make it much longer. The rest of my current harvest should be good for a few days, we are working on putting up peaches as well....... Busy busy busy!

I understand that one far too well, peach butter, blackberry jam, jelly and preserves, sand plums, plums a load of apples and pears coming soon, all the pickles that have been made and put up. We are running out of jars quickly and need to find some more. I have been looking on CL, garage and estate sales everywhere I can think of to find more, about ready to start trading 1 full for 12 empty jars maybe that would do the trick.. That or trade jars for the extra garden goodies. I know even my birds are getting a mouth full with all the canning and the birds getting the trimming they might turn into vegetables soon too.

Thanks! I have had trouble with wheel weights coming off this car like no other so hubby said "tell them to duct tape them on" I remember they had to do that once with our Suburban. Of course the attitude I got at the tire place was a woman who doesn't know what she is talking about. I will be taking the car somewhere else this week I hope to get the new tires put on the front like I asked. I don't like older tires being on the front.(my older ones are not quiet two years old yet). If I am going to have a blow out I want it on the back of the car not the front. Plus I will have to find somewhere to get air in the tires because when I got home last night I realized they all looked low, they are all 10# low on air, grrrr.
There are different weights for the different style aluminum wheels, on one style the back part of the part that grabs the wheel is longer, If they are using thestyle that has the shorter clip that is why they come off. Steel wheels take a completely different weight also. I'm not including the stick on type. ask them if they are using the mc marked weights. these are probably what you need

Do some NNs have feather legs? What about skin color? I am getting too curious about NNs. Now that I've got a second breed, Ameraucanas/EEs, I am slipping into more breeds! I held off with just Cochins for almost 3 years. Well I did have one red NN that I raised from a chick and gave away at 4 mo. I kind of miss her.
No!!!,... for heavens sake!, ...no naked neck cochins!

If a hen is taken from a pen and put with another rooster, how long should a person wait to collect the eggs for incubation? I've heard two weeks.
Single comb, peacomb or rosecomb? it all plays a role...

Single comb could be up to 21 days.
Peacomb 10-14 days,
Rosecomb 7-10 days

if you have an agressive breeder could be shorter but not gauranteed.
