***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Do you have a picture of your original coop? 8 x 4 would be a good size for the two geese as they grow up.
i'll get some pics, its not fancy, we just added a little room on the porch- using the side of the mobile home where it has a bathroom, pretty basic- and a coop door going down under the porch, don't know if i'd do that again, makes it hard to get to them in an emergency..... but it is where all the poultry hang out-

looks like we may have lost one of the baby guineas, she hasn't shown up with the gang tonite-

Yep, we have wild turkeys. I work for some people that have them come into their yard but mainly only in the fall when they are moving around a lot. I've never had a wild one in my yard or even seen any wild ones around our town ... of course in the town I live in people would just shoot them and eat them if they did see them ... sigh. That pic is one strange looking turkey though.

And as for melting ... I've already melted and oozed through the cracks ...

Something ate my 8 Swedish Flower chicks last night. Have never had any predators till now. They were usu a week old. Something dug under the dog house and fence then pulled open the door i had attached. I didn't put the bolts through the eyes so I'm sure i made it easy. Well, 'm back down to 7 and really mad at myself.

Sorry I've had a horrible chicks week too.

There are a few sub-species of wild Turkeys here like the Rio Grande and the Eastern, that's all that I can think of right now. I have heard that the Brush Turkeys build a huge nest and often court chickens come mating time. Also heard that they can be dangerous when their nest is approached. Beautiful bird though, kinda reminds me of our Naked Necks! LOL
Yes the males build huge mounds which numerous females can lay in. The males chase each other ruthlessly from their areas which is mainly when the flying happens, two huge ponderous turkeys flying past a 2 story verandah just looks wrong. I really wonder why people do not eat them here? Probably protected. Its my own fault in a way, if I move the big pythons that prey on them, I guess I get more turkeys Grrrrr.

This is a bad pic but taken from my verandah. The snake had pretty much swallowed a huge brush turkey . The lump makes it look like it took a bantam but the turkeys are much bigger than my standard plymouth rock hens.

Teva has a bird that could be shown as an Ameraucana but we won't do it because we know her breeding. Oh she is black with that beautiful beetle-green sheen, black legs and white on the bottom of her feet, full beard and muffs. Her dad was a Black Giant and her mom is bb-red OEGB x Ameraucana, from good show stock. We have talked about it several times though. But only at the county levels LOL

And the Ameraucana people wouldn't be able to even tell for sure :)

My neighbor has Bronze turkeys. Occasionally a wild one cruses thru the neighborhood and my first thought is' "One of Jack's got out." Guess the wild girl is looking for a mate and heard Jack's two toms calling.

I'm lucky, not many poisonous ones in my part of OZ. There are lots of snake removal people around too. It would freak me out having poisonous ones.
