What does PO mean in this context? The only definition I know doesn't fit!

I don't really know, exactly, because I've heard various explanations (generally Pass On), but it means no sale. I want it back. They go through the auction process, to the final winning bidder, and the seller just says PO, it is marked that way and the seller takes it home. Sometimes, the auctioneer will ask the seller how much it will take, then offer that to the highest bidder, then anyone else willing to buy at the price. But not always.

And sometimes I've seen sellers so insulted by the price that they actually seemed POed, so maybe that is what it means.

I have always supported and will continue to support all of the local poultry auctions I can. I agree all these people work hard for not very much money, especially Jerry. I remember when Peaches and Doc first started up there were people on here bashing their sale as they tried to work out the kinks, and I was one of the few to defend them. These things are extremely important to the local chicken community's economy. When we have equipment or birds we need or don't need, this is the easiest and for my mind cheapest way to hook up for trade. You can run things on CL, but then there is the hassle of meeting with several people and haggling to actually make the sale. Folks like you are able to extend the reach of the auctions' impact by buying at the auction where relatively few people attend and selling at markets where there are many.

I was only trying to make the point that it is the seller, not the auction or even the buyer, who has the most power. You can pull an item at any time, PO at any time, for whatever reason. Folks should exercise that power when needed. Better to do that than to go away angry or hurt.

It does sound like Bill was mishandled a bit. I don't know. I don't know who it was (although I know it wasn't Jerry) or what exactly happened or why. Maybe someone was in a bad mood, or hot, or whatever. It's got to be hard being up there for hours doing what is essentially an impromptu performance. No script, no teleprompter, just flying by the seat of your pants in front of all those people.

I will continue to use both auctions, both to buy and sell, and visit when I can. I encourage everyone else to do the same. Mike is right, we need them and we are lucky to have them.

Buster I am going to step up here and give my opinion, no offense intended as was yours, I have to say I totally agree with you and Mike, I too think ALL auctions are very important to the poultry industry whether you are a big producer or a small time hobbyist, we have so many of our rights taken away nowadays, lets stick together and support any and all poultry endeavors, i totally enjoy going to auctions and have been to both mentioned and several others, they are not always perfect but I think they all do the best they can and try to give good service, auctions are not an easy business to be in. I hope we can all support each other here, no right no wrong, this is my opinion only, thanks, Lynn

WOW Joe and I thought I had alot of birds!!! I am going to show hubby your post just to shut him up! LOL I now know where to turn to when I get ready to replace my 15 year olds Porcelin Duccle he lost yesterday. Her pen mate is fine but that was just got less and less active until she died. We tried giving her vitamins and such but I think the weather was just to much for her. Post away on pics of the newbies I love seeing your birds!

thanks they are a littel like your leghorn pullets they are so used to beeing overcrouded in small pens that they dont know what to think about the large flight pen they are in now last night we had a small rain storm and i had to go move every one into ther houses and put them on the roost they had never been outside and don't know what rain or sunshine or even grass was lol but today they have been scatching and running and flying about ther pens i think they like there new home
tomarow i have 300+ jap bantams coming and 65+ mille flure duccle with all the new birds my TOTAL # OF BIRDS WILL BE CLOSE TO 2,100 give or take a 100 or so

i wish i could make it out that way but i was all rready bussy before the new birds now im swaped lol but they are all laying well and i would be more then willing to seend you some eggs if you fill like hatching

Newcastle chicken sale is this weeken . modernman is the one drinking the water ,,They have the Newcastle chicken show coming up an it is open to every one an i think they are allso showing water fowl..

Joe - Congrats on all the new birds. I've got a few of your NN babies pipping in my incubator today. I have four CL eggs in there too, but I only see a tiny crack on one; no full beaks out yet.

I can't even begin to tell you all how upset I am right now. The neighbors dog got our chickens. A little background info for you: I live in the city and have a completely fenced yard. I have called the neighbor twice about this dog. My neighbors have chickens and she has never hurt them. I still don't want her around, I have a fence for a reason. I keep my dogs in the house when I let the girls out so of course I don't want someone elses dog in my yard while they are out (or any other time). The worst part is my 10 year old daughter is the one who discovered the dead ones. We were getting ready to leave for their dentist appointment and she was coming out with me to round the girls up. I saw the stupd @ss dog in the coop and started screaming at her to get out. There are feathers every where. We lost our favorite bird that we have brought in the house twice to recoop after she was attacked as a baby by the other chicks and once for heat exhaustion. My silkies took quite a beating and lost a lot of feathers but seem to be ok. I am SO MAD! I'm sure my neighbor is scared to death of me now. I called her screaming at her and she had her husband come home from work to help us locate our birds and clean up. He says he will put up an electric fence today and even offered to put her down. I don't want that, that's not fair to them. I wish they had listened the times I called. These aren't birds for eating, they are our pets, no different than a dog or cat. They were 14 weeks old and just starting to get pretty. Now we have to replace them and I don't want to get babies for fear of them being roo's, and older birds I worry that they haven't been hand raised and may not have the gentle personality that these girls had. I just want to cry.

My poor girls had to go off to the dentist bawling and worried about the birds we couldn't find. I had my eighteen year old drive them and I stayed here. Took nearly an hour to find three of them, they must have been up in trees because they would just appear out of nowhere. My husband came home and burried the birds for me. We told the neighbor the next time their dog is in our yard she'd get a bullet between her eyes. He said he understood and we had his permission to do so. I don't want to be at odds with my neighbors. Blagh!

Oh I am SOOOO sorry, that is so terrible! I hope this will be enough for the neighbor to keep their dog in line. Good luck finding replacements, wish I had some to offer, ours that we are willing to sell are still too young to sex.
