***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm still letting my broodies hatch babes, as they are in the pens I want most and the summer babes were so few and so weak--I'm sure because of excess heat affecting the embryos in early stages. So far, in the last week, they've hatched 11 showgirls and 7 silkies. All seem to be quite hardy. I've noticed in the past that fall babes usually are good ones. I may be sorry in a couple of months when I'm having to accommodate more, but I do have two or three empty large pens.

I'm hatching out some too. I want more girls to go through the winter.

Hi all, how is everyone, anyone here planning to go to the Green Country Swap and show? We have had some rain but could use some more, the lake that we get water from is 8+ feet below level so we need rain! Birds are doing good, young pullets are laying good now, need to get lights up for winter and get things ready. Have a great day all, Lynn

Oh Joe I am drooling over those orpingtons!!!! Love the Jubilie!!! I need a few more lavender pullets if you get to a point of wanting to sell a few. I would love 2-4 more.

Sorry I have been MIA but I have been busy now that basketball season started. We went to a basketball festival yesterday in Irving,TX it rained the whole time. Glad to see the rain just wish I had been holed up at home instead, lol. The suburban broke down on our way to church. Thankfully we had decided to drive two cars to church so we all crowded into the truck and left the poor suburban at Pebbly and I-40. It was a "cozy" ride to church but we got to church and then went for the suburban. Ended up just being a thermostat. I won't trust it for the next week or so just in case so I will drive it this week and let Matthew drive my car. I love that suburban it has been such a great vehicle! Got home and took all day to get birds taken care of. Everyone needed fresh hay in their nest boxes and pens. I can't even touch the hay without my allergies putting me down so the kids did it all with me instructing from afar, lol. Here are some pictures I took this last week before the rain hit. I know my birds are alot of work but I sure love them!


I love these birds, Nana that little columbian was one we got at POOPS, they are so sweet.

Nana this is the columbian roo, sorry not a great pic he is a bit defensive of his little flock of girls. I have him and his girl in with some SLW pullets.

This is a mixed group, but the ones in front are my newest little addition, Lavender Orpingtons. They are still very young, but I love them they are so friendly.

This is one set of these, I use this set as part brooders and part for Kurt he has a pair of cochins in each of the bottom ones. Nathanael has a set like this with his OEGB's in them. The little pen is his as well he has his little Blue Wheatons in there right now.

Kurt's little D'uccles. He loves thes little birds and his roo is so happy to have 3 little pullets of his own. Banjojoe these little pullets are so social it suprises me since the roo is a little PITA.

This is Bantam row it will have pens across from them that are a mirror image once we are done. The wooden pen Kurt made all from recycled pallets and sheet metal. He even used end pieced of wire we had left over from the larger pens. The other two pens are Partridge bantam cochins.


This is our Sexlink pen, I have 25 barred hens and 3 NHR roosters. They have already eaten about 1/2 of their 1/4 acre run, lol.

More of Kurts bantam Cochins, they live in the pallet coop, they are a bit skitish compared to all the other bantam cochins we have.

We would gladly take some if it! We've had enough to wet the pavement but that's it.

Broke down and brought home more chicks ... from Atwoods ... nothing big, just 2 wyandottes and 2 black sex link that my daughter picked out. My husband nearly had guineas picked out too but he didn't have enough money on his debit card for them. So I guess we'll be getting guineas pretty soon. Sigh.

Had a good time at the Wildlife Expo. It was crowded but we got there early before it was too crazy. Morgan had a great time kayaking, shooting a shotgun, and doing archery. I enjoyed all of the free samples of wild game ... deer sausage, catfish, and wild boar soup. MMMM.

If you haven't bought guineas yet I have some that my silly girls were sitting on outside, we brought in some and the darn things are hatching in the hatcher now. Not sure how many will hatch but I will be selling them. The last hatch I had 3 make it, one pied, one pearl and one white. Send me a PM if you are interested. Otherwise they will all go to auction this next week. I need my brooder space for chicks hatching this next week.
