Just checking in. Went back to work today and now I'm vegging on the couch watching the tube waiting til the new birds come tomorrow. We got another lot of meat birds for cheap because Meyer hatchery had a lot of cancellations because of the hurricane and had extra birds to sell. We'll see if they do as well as our McMurray birds. We have a set that's 5 weeks old now so by the time we process them the new ones should be big enough to take over their bigger pen. I am not, however, looking forward to processing 50 birds between now and Christmas but I guess you take it when it comes. I think we'll process some of the new ones as cornish hens because we like to eat those every now and then. And then some we're just going to skin totally and process the meat for breast meat and canned meat for things like enchiladas and casseroles. That will help not having to pluck 50 chickens. UGH!
Broke out in a rash today from the rubber gloves I was wearing. They are supposed to be latex free so I don't know if I got something on them or if I'm becoming allergic to the non-latex gloves as well. Yippee. Just like my dad. He tried 9 different types of gloves before OSHA gave him an exception and said he didn't have to wear them. I just LOVE being allergic to the world ... not.
