***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ok. I did a headcount and would like to know who's been sneaking birds in while I wasn't looking??? Christina? Cathie? 'Fess up!
How many birds do some of you have? I'd really like to feel better about my numbers.

Sorry Mitzi we can't count ours unless they are sleeping. We counted on the 5th of April & we had 50 grown chickens. I honeslty have no idea how many chickens or guineas we have today. I do know we have 13 ducks, 4 dogs & 6 goats does that help???
We only counted in April to try & set limits on how many chicks Taron could keep this spring. The guineas & chickens combine prob eat the same as those fat ducks.

Well lets see these are just est.

A-frame 1 has 4 duccles, Garden pen has 2 CW, 4 SLW, 4 Lav. Orps, 2 chain link pens 4 RIR roos, 27 Barred Rock/Cuckoo Marans pullets/hens, 5 SLW/CW roos, 14 RIRs, Kurt's pens I think he has 18 banty cochins between the 3 pens, 5 Wheaton Marans, 9 GSMarans, 19 Layers, 11 Blue Splash Marans, 5 cuckoo marans, 3 roos, 7 Bantam Cochins Jackson swears he is going to sell @@, 9 bantam cochins he is keeping, 10 BCMarans, 14 Guineas (these are the ones that don't run loose there are 43 more that free range), 5 EEs, 4 Silkies, and I think Nathanael had 15 birds last count. Then there are chicks in the outside brooder and in the inside brooder. So glad we sold the 33 keets we had hatch last month!!!

So almost 200 and that doesn't count the 14 or so roos that are running loose or the free range guineas. Sooooooo that should make you feel much better!!! LOL

LOL!!! Ksane, I ONLY have around 200-250 birds right now and about a third of those are roosters!!! Glad to see all are well, been kind laying low lately myself! I did get out and help my DW and DS put up the Christmas lights for the chickens but then when we finally got all 300+ feet of them up, the dang things wouldn't work, not a one of them, went over them once and found a bulb broke but that didn't fix it so we quit for the night, haven't got back to them yet, thinking just run new lights instead of messing with them!!! Hope everyone has a gret evening, Lynn

Feel better. Trust me. I don't want to count - because then I would have to truthfully provide a number when someone asks me - instead of answering truthfully that "I really don't know."

I don't know how it happened-seriously. I had lost quite a few to weird or unknown causes a year ago and I guess I figured that I may as well hatch out what I want since I'd probably lose a bunch again. But I didn't lose any of the new ones to anything weird or unknown.
There's 151 with my little Serama boy (but I really don't think he counts since he's seriously more human than bird). I try to keep it in perspective....even spending as much as I do on chicken feed, it's still less than what I used to spend on dog food when I had all the giant breeds.

It's rather concerning that it's only been 1 1/2 yrs since I got into chickens though. I'm hoping I've hit that inevitable point where one gradually loses the desire for more birds.....I'm fooling myself, aren't I?

Come to think of it.....Lynn, are all those roosters separated or are some running around together? It didn't pan out well at all last year trying to have a rooster yard. That would be the solution to my chicken problems if I could do that.
