***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Erin I use a wet cloth to take off any sticky or gooey parts. Then put birds back in the hatcher to dry & fluff.
Helped a friend catch an insane amount of ducks tonight & delivered them to Mike. We still have more to catch. Anyone with Muscovies be very careful. They multiply before your eyes!! Went from a flock of 15 to 70+ in a season. That never happens with chickens does it???
Will miss yall over the next few wks, I found out this afternoon I must have the left lobe of my liver removed. Think I should have an official date tomorrow, doctor said can't wait & needs to be out before Thanksgiving. 7-10 day hospital stay & long recovery. Have to work out all the details of kids, food & animals over the next few days. Offered to send the kids to family but DH wants them to stay here. So I am going to try & rotate through friends & family that are willing to stay here & watch over the kids & animals. Need to make a daily must do list so no birds goats or dogs get left out. Right now I think planning for the surgery is the worse part, but I am sure I will change my mind soon! I will check in when I can & keep y'all updated.
sorry , to here that hope you have a speedy recovery

ok guys, doing a search- what is the dosage for ivomec with seramas, and what about silkie chickes, they are 4 months now-

Jcatblum- will be praying for you n the surgery- been there with a dr wanting to do surgury right away- is an arrangement nightmare

The chick is under her now, she fluffs up and settles in and Sweet Sally is one happy foster mom

Never knew that a hen would adopt another hen's chicks without ever being broody....Gotta love her!

That's really awesome. They sometimes will, and the ones I've had that do that are really awesome broodys when it hits 'em. My Inky was about twelve weeks old when my ten week old guineas lost their foster mama hen, Glory. The guineas started following Inky everywhere and even cuddling under her wings at night. She took right to 'em. Went broody herself in the middle of winter when she was only about eight months old. I felt like I had to break her then because I didn't even have a mature rooster at the time and no access to fertile eggs, but she went broody in early March and hatched out five. I gave her ten more and she just took 'em like a charm. Congratulations on your gorgeous chickie doo family.

Does that mean Mike is selling some Muscovy ducks? I love Muscovies. What color?

Oh my gosh! That is scary! I am so worried about you. If you don't mind, I'll add you to my family's prayer list.

Would it be sad if I said I don't know what colors. It was kinda dark then completely dark. There was all kinds of colors. Probally all colors except blue. If Taron would have seen blue she would have hung on tight! She tried to keep a chocolate one. Mike should have plenty of ducks @ Mary's tomorrow. Think he was brining the fat ones & leaving the others to finish filling out a few more weeks. DH was suppose to help catch the rest saturday but with my sudden surgery we will have to postpone it.
Think I have everything taken care of as far as kids & animals. Now just working on a shopping list & I was trying to pick out thank you gifts for those helping us. Figure I may not be thinking clear enough to do thank you gifts after. Been a long day getting things lined up but hopefully I didn't forget anything. Now I can focus on packing & getting kids school assignments together.

I hope everything goes well for you.

I had chocolate ones and one lavender. I think the black ones are SO pretty.

Sad day here. I went out to take care of the bantams and my beautiful Charlotte was dead. I have no idea what happened. Nothing got in their pen. There were no injuries. Not a feather out of place. No one has acted sick. No sneezing. No one off their feed. Everyone just scratching around and peeping and running around doing chicken stuff. She was fine yesterday. She was dead today. I smelled her and she smelled sweet and fresh like pine shavings. She was just stone cold dead. I buried her under the peach tree she loved. And I cried my eyes out. She was my favorite chicken. I got her from Banjoejoe at NEOCS and frankly, she's the reason I went to NEOCS. I said "Imma bid on me a blue frizzled cochin bantam pullet and I don't care if I have to pay $50, I'm bringin' her home." And now she's gone. I didn't even get any eggs hatched from her.

So sorry to hear this. I remember how excited you were to share with us about Charlotte. Why is it that we seem to lose our favorites.
