***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Oh Mitzi!!! Such pain you must be experiencing an empty cage & nothing to go in it!
The predators have been bad the past couple days at our house. Friday night the coyotes sounded as if they were out front in my garden. I hear them everynight but never so close. DH fired a few shots & things got quiet. We did have 2 guineas disappear. No sign of attack. But I am certain the animals are all trying to eat well before the cold sets in.
My surgery is rescheduled for the 28th, thankful it gives me more time to prepare. Hopefully this time it isn't postponed.
You know how you can see a snipit of the last post on the place where you click to get to the actual thread (love my command of the techno jargon???? ) well my heart just sank for ksane when I saw someone consoling her for her empty cage, until I got to the actual post and realized it was built empty, and not empty for tragic reasons.

I did lose 1 of my 4 mo old Orloff pullets today. I found her when I got home from PetsMart. Losing them is hard enough but to not know why makes it sadder. The Orloff pullets are in with my Bantam Ameraucanas and that group's always been one of my favorites. You'd think with 8 identical Orloff chicks that I wouldn't know one from the other, But the 1 I lost happened to be the one that was always 1st on my lap and the smallest one and always one of my favorites.

Well due to the oil boom I have relocated to Enid but I don't get on very much anymore. that's the SW corner of NW. LOL

still alive and kickin' and averaging way too many hours weekly to get on the computer. Just came home today to move some appliances North.
Land and rent prices are crazy high and it looks like for the near future there is no end in sight.

Even at 52 I find myself getting homesick for our place here, listening to all of the critters and watching them through the day and hearing the Coyotes howl at night. 15 more payments and this place will be free and clear and I'm sure that I can rustle up enough work to keep food on the table and pay the bills.

Well I'd better get loaded and head that way. Later ya'll !!!!
Hello!
Been missing you and your NNs. It has been a great week to see a couple of long lost Okies on the thread! I love to baby my birds with your special "yoghurt, apple sauce +" recipe.

Mitzi sorry you lost the pullet. I didn't think it would take you long to find something special to fit in your empty cage.
We go back & forth on moving back into town-- the tenants in our old home have orders to a new duty station. The animals are the top reason to stay at the farm. I couldn't imagine giving up one of our dogs or not watching the goats play during the day. Of course we will never get Taron to ever go back down to enough birds to live in the city limits again.

Evening : )

Waiting for pizza to finish. We spent the afternoon cleaning the shop, so I'm too worn out to really "fix" anything. Kass - pork and apple sauce sounds delicious.

I put a rock on the largest trap tonight. It should keep the stink bombs from upending it. I've moved the other trap to the gravel drive since there wasn't any action on the concrete driveway, other than having the trap snapped.

The coyotes are playing in surround-sound tonight. I heard shooting, so I think some of our neighbors are seeing what we're hearing.

Am I the only one that doesn't name the birds? Nathanael names his, Jackson and Kurt haven't yet that I know of. I have a few that have names like my big red RR roo he is "Big Red" I know original huh. We also have a BO hen that is Miss Chatterbox because she tells you about everything when you go out to feed or gather eggs. I also have a rag tag pair of BR hens I bought in Newcastle last spring that looked horrible and have crooked toes. But they are the sweetest things we call them the Spinsters. They stick together and kind of keep to themselves.

Man, I really got behind :-O I did get the 4x8 Sebright 'cottage' done though. Well, my husband helped. There's 5 Sebrights and a little Black Quail OEGB in with them, they were all hatched & raised together by the lady I got them from. That little OEGB is stealing my heart! The sweetest chattiest little thing.
I've got this 3'x5' iron cage and (get this) it's EMPTY <shudder!> I'm looking for some finches to put in it because as we all know it's just eating at me to have a perfectly good EMTPY cage. I love how finches sound and I want a bird that prefers their own company and does *not like to be held. I don't want my little Serama to have to share his attention. That would make for a very tiny grouchy rooster.
Does anyone here breed or have finches? Diamond Doves would be another option. I'm going to look around on Cragislist.
Oh I had an empty pen until last week when the little CW roo I got at POOPS decided to take me on. I had to kick him 3 times to make him back down. So he is now in the empty breeding pen by the guineas (that will teach him he now has to listen to those darn guineas 24/7). I have been working with him all week on letting me in the pen and I walk straight toward him. If he charges me I chase him until I catch him and then carry him all over to do my chores. He will settle down or else, lol. I figure another few days serperated from his pen and he will be ready to go back. Plus he will be the low man on the pecking order so that will help the other roo in that yard. He had him beat down horribly. He didn't start this until last week up till then the BC Marans and him lived happily together. There are 9 BC pullets, 1 CW pullet, 5 SLW pullets in there so plenty of girls to go around haha.
