All this talk of hatching eggs has me looking at bators. But then I remind myself that I don't even have a coop/run/pen built.

It would be neat to hatch them, but what do you do with them after they hatch and you are already at the legal limit of allowed chickens and young?

I have a styrofoam incubator that I use as a hatcher, It is what malfunctioned on me and got too hot and killed my eggs/chicks. I have tried to fix it. I can't get it to work without heating up to boiling. I took the wafer out and put it back in. Ideas? I am actually scared of it now. Don't want to loose a bunch of babies like I just did.

Thanks Grace! Me too!!! It was very traumatic to loose all those babies at once. Can't wait to hatch some more of Carla's Turkens. maybe I'll get a frizzle or two.

I would change out the wafer thermostate. If that does not work you can order from most livestock supply places online and total new heating unit which is not as expensive a buying a new incubator.

Where did you order them from? When I order chicks I have them hold at the post office and pick them up.
Depending on the weather, if you can get them quickly they should be okay. At least it isn't super hot today. I would try tracking them from the hatchery to each stop along the way. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

You need to contact the hatchery NOW! Where/who are they coming from? They should have some sort of tracking/delivery confirmation number to check on the shipment.

Honey, you need to contact wherever you ordered the chicks.
Do you have confirmation that "they did ship" ? If you're in
the process of moving....are you sure they have the right
address? Don't want to sound nosey, but 4 days is tooo long.
Have you called your post office?

Hope this works out. Let us know.

We've been talking to the Hachery, and they said that the chicks were shipped sunday... Even though the Post offices don;t ship on 'Holidays' such as monday... Stupid It shouldn't be a holiday... no offence... I blaim post offices... They don't scan packages until they leave one place and get where the going... They need to scan them every time they stop somewhere... If even one of those birds are dead I swear who ever picks up the phone at the Hatchery will be ripped a new one.
