In the bitter cold like we sometimes get the NNs will be out and about while all the others are on the roost trying to keep warm. When the hens feed intake drops due to the weather so will their egg production.
Goldrose; here is a pic of Red on the day we got him. He is a retired pen horse that was used at the Ok. National Stockyards and was used as a ranch horse for years after that. In this shot he was lathered up and dirty from rolling in his new pen and he is challenging the other studs we have. He was 17yo then. He is now running with the others that we have with no problems. As usual just click to enlarge.

hmm I may reconsider naked necks. No offense but they have a neck/face only a mother could love....or a nn breeder
As I often tell people" that is the ugly truth of these birds". Seriously though there has been more research done on this breed than any other but if you do a search be sure to type in Naked Neck Chickens and have a good adult content filter or the results may knock you right out of your chair!!
Carla, how did the auction turn out for you and Gerald? I was thinking that with so many people and so few birds, it'd be a good go for sellers. Hope I was right!
al, we did meet, right? I never got a BYC name from the person Carla introduced me to, but I think you were the only other one going. *haha*
Goldrose, did you make it to the auction? How'd you come out?
Sorry I didn't stay at the auction. Its too tempting to buy things if I sit there and watch other people bid. Clark told me multiple times not to bring anything else home! And the heat was just too much for me, not good for my kidneys with the stones and all.

I'm glad that I looked it up on photobucket first b/c I hadn't even thought of that until photo bucket said that I was not allowed to search for that kind of material b/c they don't allow adult content!
Cammie, I wish you could have stayed longer at the Cement auction, but I know the heat was absolutely unbearable yesterday afternoon. I would have enjoyed seeing your wedding pictures!
The price on all the birds seemed to be quite low again, except for certain breeds. Silkies always seem to do well, and a pair of rosecomb chickens sold for a good price. We didn't buy anything alive except for some royal palm turkey poults from one of the auction owners, and some of his turkey eggs. The auction was over by 8 pm.
We enjoyed visiting with the regulars at the auction, including meeting Al's wife, and Rebecca & her husband were there selling some of their birds ... and I missed bidding on her turkeys (darn!) and we invited some regulars to join the backyardchickens clan. I hope they do!
Oh, and we were told of a new Small Animal Auction (including poultry) beginning in August to be held at the Newcastle Fair Barn. It is to be held August 9th at 5pm, and will be held the 2nd Saturday of every month. I have a contact person's name & phone number, but I don't know if it should be posted on a public forum?
I allways look forward to visiting with our BYC friends at Cement once a month. lets see, Rebecca was there and I met her for the first time and she seemed to be quite the busy bee checking in her stock, I was introduced to Cammie through Carla, but did not get the chance to see the wedding pic's, Countryroad was there, and of course sitting with Carla and Gerald is allways a treat, we had a good time and a few laughs, such nice folks, the birds they brought did sell but could have brought a better price. I did pick up 12 Barred Rocks pretty cheap so I was happy with that, and I bought this huge and heavy 8 section breeder cage that was hell to strap onto my truck,
The turn out was low and the poultry selection was minimal, prices were very low, the cause could have been the Holiday wknd and the heat, with that said I will see you there next month.
Carla, I think there's a poultry show in August in Newcastle. That's where I met Grace last year. She might have more info about it. I haven't heard about an auction though, that would be wonderful!
