thats awful sheila! i moved all mine inside again, talk about spoiled- their coop has just gotten finished and we are doing the run, the coop attaches to the mobile home so they can come in easily to the spare bathroom and hall - so they are getting air conditioning! then i have to keep one seperate who is having crop issues, and her best buddy is keeping her company- a buff cochin- the roo is beside himself not sure which group to be with, so we have a hardwire gate between them, pipi the crop girl is on yogurt and acv water, but not chick feed- thought she was over it, but it seems to come and go- anyway, so all together 7 standards are chillin out in the hallway, the 4 guienneas are in the spare bedroom, and the silkies and my duccle in the art studio... i hope once the run is done they can handle the heat... i saw some posts where they get one of those storage bins, put a soda bottle with frozen water in it and they will have a kind of air conditioned 'room' to sit in, well, PJ the cochin thought that was great, and snuggled next to it...

Surviving here....so far....... Go figure, it gets this "super hot"
and the wind stops....... They did go out about 2:00 and hosed
everything down......TJ swears the bunny rabbits even liked
it..........LOL Gees, think about it....being a bunny rabbit in this
heat......LOL But, they were already in the coolest
flight pen out there and are freed up to run around and find an
"even" cooler spot.....LOL

Sheila - Have more cochins than Na-Na wants....but, they seem
to be doing as well as any of the others. Haven't lost a bird.
Sorry that you seem to be taking a major hit through this.

OKCarla - sorry about the washer. I just had to replace mine
about 4 months ago....but, I just couldn't make myself to do the
"new" front load machines. So, I went with the Cabrio "top
loader". So far...with Pa-Pa and these kids....I'm a happy
camper....laundry is one thing that I always have................

Carla good to hear from you! Sorry you are under the weather, colds in this heat are the worst!!

Panther, sorry about your loss! So far we are hitting the 103 heat index but so far everything is holding on. The only thing I am doing so far is going out and wetting the pen down around 3pm. They are in complete shade. I let them out to free range. I do notice that they seem to take turns either laying by the water bowl or perching on the edge.

Robin you are gonna have to be careful when you finally get your chickens outside. If they don't start getting use to this heat now what will you do in July & Aug. when it is super hot? By the way how do they get in & out of the house? Do you have a pet door or something?

Hey guys

Carla, hope you feel better soon. The heat makes everything worse. I just inch from chore to chore...very slowly.

Ed McMahon died. I am so depressed. What a loss. That was back in the day when people stuck together through thick and thin. This generation is stuck with the likes of Tom Cruise and "Brangelina" .

I haven't had any problems, but I do have a lot of owls and my neighbors have 2 reaaallly cute owlets in their roof peak. And all the teenies escape and run all over. Gives me an ulcer. They have no brains...they think they are 10 ft. tall and bulletproof.

Carla, ya made me miss POOPS and hanging with all the okes.

P.S. Those trees you see in the photos are my neighbor. God does not allow me to own trees.... and if the grass is gonna stay green it had better rain soon.... Gotta go lock up the heathens....and I should probably put the hens in as well....

Hello everyone! I just thought I would check in and ask if there were any tips on keeping my chickies healthy in this heat? I am a new chick mom and I guess this happens every year but, I am worried about them. How do they survive the heat? I guess birds in the wild do it all the time. Am I worrying needlessly?

Good Morning everyone! Its been a while since Ive been on here. Been busy building pens for my chickens and trying to stay cool in this heat. I went to the lexington auction the other night and got to meet Kevin and Stimpy. It was very nice to meet you both. Well guess Im off to feed and water everyone this morning.
