Donna - You and your family are on our minds and in our hearts.

Teach - OK, doing fine with the cornish....Now to the crele....LOL
We have our first little birdie...it's a cutie, too. Have you hatched
these? It's dark on it's back, soft yellow around and under, and
has just a faint hint of the striping down it's back. Bill seems to
remember that the little girls hatch darker and the little boys
are lighter at hatching.....Any clue???? If anyone else has
hatched them, holler.

Henny - August too late for a hatch?..... Hum, never heard of
such around here......... The only way this bunch isn't hatching
something is if Na-Na "accidentally" unplugs the incubator...LOL

Have a good one !

Na-Na :

How are ya'll doin, are the kids enjoying their summer??. How's my buddy Bill hangin in there?, Tell him I am really catching H3LL trying to AI these big brutes can't seem to get a sample, I hope I am doing it right. Why are raccoons allowed pets, but chickens not!!!!

The animal control officer in our small town said that I can only keep chickens as long as no neighbors complain. But, I am really not worried about it since within 3 blocks of me four other people have chickens in their backyard.
What really rubs me wrong is what happened today:
I am out watering the chickens, when I look up... I drop the water hose and jump back.... not far away, on my neighbor's porch is a raccoon! Since it is daylight, I know something is wrong, and I am just praying it is not rabid. We call the police, but I am still keeping an eye on it until they get the animal control officer here! All of a sudden, it turns, and I notice it has a lease on! When the officer gets here we tell her about that. She goes and talks to the neighbor, then come tells us that, "It is her pet. There's nothing I can do".
Excccccuse me! You can threaten to take away my harmless chickens, but let the neighbor keep a raccoon - a wild animal?!

When I was a kid I had a friend that had three of them that were kept in cages in the back yard. At one time they were friendly but as they grew older they became mean. I never cared much for them and think they should be wild and not pets.

did they have a permit for the coon?oklahoma laws requires a permit on them .i have had several of them throughout the years.they ar fun till mating season comes around females the first year an the males the second year

My daughter affectionately named that period of time "Forks Week."

Wow, I never thought of that.

Forget the permit, it should be against the law to own something like that, period, they are meant for the wood and the woods alone. They decapitate chickens and are just down right nasty animals. Sorry for any offence.

Well we must be doing something right up here in the northeast corner! We have had RAIN 2 days in a row!!! It cooled it down to 84 degrees this morning but the temp is climbing yeat again!

Well I am a WHIMP! I didn't even make it through a whole week of 4H daycamp with out getting overheated!!.
Last night I was extremely sick to my stomach and had the other end too. And just felt miserable. I am blaming it on the heat instead of anything else. I even called in sick today cause I am still running off to the bathroom every little bit. I HATE to call in sick!!

OK!! I need help from all of my fellow OKIES!!

1.) Shaun has decide to do and insect collection for 4H and I was hoping to have you guys collect interesting bugs for him all over the state( and those displaced Okies can play too). If you find something place it in a Ziplock type bag and put it in the freezer and pm me and I will send you an padded envelope and hard container to mail to us.

Or I can paypal you the money to send it.
Thank you Thank you!!

2.) Our extention office has one of those cabinets that you see at some of the fairs that the chicks hatch in. UH lets see a hatcher perhaps (duh on my part) It has a spot for them to hatch and a spot for the to brood. Wll anywho.. it has not been set up for several years at our fair. I would LOVE to have it going for this years fair.
Do you think I could pull it off?
How hard would it be to keep the temp stable enough in a bldg. with no AC in August?
What to I need to look for in this to make sure it is ready to go?
How many eggs should I look at setting?
How should the be staggered so I can have a hatch going on all week long?
I can set about 80 eggs in my 2 styrofoam incubators, BUT the neighbor has a sportsman.
Should I do differnt colors of eggs, Like EE's, Wellsummers, maybe even Quail?
Then what do you do with all of the chicks hatched? Could they be sold at the premium sale with all the money going to the 4H kids?

Please let me know what you guys think on both prjects. I heading back to bed. I HATE being under the weather, to much stuff to do.

Have a great day ,
Neecy

disclaimer: there are a a few persons on this thread who will pretend to be your friend and then ask you if you would like to take their young roosters off their hands. If you agree to take very young roosters from one person, be prepared for half a dozen other folks to ask you to take THEIR very young roosters also.

seriously, this is a wonderful group of very nice people who are mostly addicted to chickens, incubating eggs and poultry auctions. Most of us are also enablers who like for everyone around us to have the same addictions, so beware! We will encourage you to increase your flock size, get an incubator and come join us at poultry auctions. Before you know it, you will be having lots of fun and trying to figure out how to incorporate a huge feed bill into your budget.
