Okay, I need some ideas for a new coop. My old one is getting too small (and it sucks). My husband built it and bless is heart, had no clue what he was doing.

It is 6x6x6.5 ft. I have 9 chickens, 5 guineas, 5 ducks, plus I have 8 dozen eggs incubating right now. They won't be permanent members of the flock though. When everyone gets inside, the eggs get busted. I only want one coop in the yard. I was thinking 8x8x8 ft. for the new coop. I have to build it all by myself because he will be at work and my *little* helpers, 12 & 4 yrs. old, start school this week. I need something that will be fairly simple to build and won't take forever. I have most, if not all, of the lumber I will need. It will be a tin building because I have a bunch of tin from a barn we just took down. I will reuse my nest boxes and roosts because they are just add-ons to my old coop. I have a door with frame also. The only thing I really need to buy is some type of flooring and windows, so I should be able to get away fairly cheap. All I need from you guys is an idea on what type or style of coop would be best. I have been scanning the web for two days trying to make my mind up and it just isn't working.

Please help me figure out what to build.

If you will go to the BYC homepage and look under the coop design title there are many there that may give you a good idea of how you could do it, my coops are fairly simple, one is a metal shed like you would buy at lowes and the other is a fiberglass air dam off the top of a semi.

I have been looking there, among other places. I just can't make up my mind.

I need someone to just tell me to do this and I'll do it, LOL. I am not good at decisions. I like input from other people. I suppose I just need to do some more planning, but I need to get this done soon. My babies are due to hatch later this month and I was planning on making a space for them in the new coop. That way the other chickens get used to them. I think it is warm enough out there for them.

Done!

Evening all! I had a great day!! I got the hens (spring hatch) moved in with the old girls and now the roo's are all alone ( and sad). I will now work to get some pic's to see if anyone might be interested in them. Two are bantam and I would at least like to know what they are..... Got the coop all clean out on Friday evening and still haven't caught anything else in the live trap!

Going to go out to clean out the water' in the small pens.

Hello all! Sorry I don't have time to catch up with all the posts. Just wanted to say hi from Slapout! Pretty sure I'm about to experience something no one else on the board is... RAIN!

I picked out a few chickens for myself the other day, got them put in the small pen, all ready to go... And something got in and got all but 1.

But there are still several Australorps left, so I will be taking 2 of those and the 1 Barred Rock. Yay!

I also have two Maran chicks from my incubator! Mom is taking care of them while I'm gone.

Hope everyone is doing well!

I need some rat zappers! Where do you buy them?

There are several vendors listed on Amazon. I have the silver one because it's bigger and you get more use out of the batteries. I've had more than 30 mice zapped on one set so far. You can also try TSC Tractor Supply if you have one close by. I don't think I've seen the zappers in ours in Muskogee, though. Maybe a phone call can save a trip.

The manufacturer, Agrizap, says this about the Rat Zapper:
Perfect for larger rats (and mice too!), ongoing rodent infestations and commercial applications. Bait with ordinary pet food. No blood, no gore, no mess, and no poisons to endanger your pets or the environment. Flashing kill light tells you when you have a catch; simply tip the Rat Zapper and let the dead rodent slide into the trash can. Aprox. 30 kills with one set of 4 alkaline "D" Cell batteries (not included).
