Hola peeps...
I hate learning about things the hard way.... On the pother hand Mr. Les is my hero. Y'all when he speaks...Listen.
On Saturday I pulled all my hay out as per Les... Took 4 hours of me and hubby hauling, but I got it all... It was holding a lot of moisture under it in the dirt....some spots the hay was 2 foot deep. It was holding in that pittance of rain we got awhile back pretty well though. I told Mikey, I would never get another round bale again. Don't know what I'm gonna put in the nest boxes, maybe shavings? So we got rid of that hazard. My coops still leaks pretty bad when we get a lot of rain, but that's easy enough to clean out. Waiting on some cash to repair the back wall and the roof. In the meantime that will guarantee that every storm will hit us....
My red hen either has Mareks or (Les, ya ready?) Botulism. Last night I checked her really good for mites and when I did, some of her feathers fell out. So this morning, after rereading Les' old post, did the Epsom flush. She was pecking at her oatmeal a little afterwards. I had a bit of standing water and the hay and the coop, so maybe it was either, or, or a combination of all three.... I was wondering if that is what the grey hen had and when I gave her the shot I overloaded her system and she went into paralysis quickly rather than slowly..... So we'll see. Mrs. Red Hen looks pretty alert and yells at me when she sees me...(can't say that I blame her).....
I really don't want to lose this hen.... It is a tough hen..... So I am praying that this will work and she will recover eventually.
