These are a new breed for me, and I'm very excited about them. I have 1 pip, but today was only day 20. I hear the little chickie chirping at me....can't wait for it to hatch! I think the Porcelain are so pretty, and I'd like to get some blue Millie's, too. Come on little chickies!

Oh....and I tried the "dry incubation" method this time and I'm having much better luck with it on shipped eggs.

Carla :

Will the the Cement auction go on this Saturday the 1st of Nov, or the Sat after next just not sure. do you know for sure.

Thanks
AL

I bet you could get away with a few Silkies...just no roo. If your neighbors aren't buttheads, it would work. Silkies don't fly, are small and quiet, and very sweet. You could keep them in the garage, take them in the backyard on sunny days. I have some silkie eggs in the incubator and the size of the eggs are really good sized....kind of medium sized.

Sounds like chicken stock was fun for all,
I only wish the next chicken stock is closer to the center of the state, more folks may attend. The long drive there and back kept me from going this year. but it was probably the organizers choice as I imagine it took a bit of work to get handled. good job to all.

Dutch, Porcelains are my mom's favorite, and she's not even a chicken person.

Incubating and hatching is the most exciting part to me. My hubby was around for my last batch, he woke me up when they started chirping. He watched them all day too (his day off). I think he was more excited than me.

Al, I agree with the location. That was over a 3 hour drive for us! So we didn't go.

I know I'm not Carla, but the Cement auction is supposed to be the first Saturday of every month. Unless ya'll know something I don't.

Hi Al, yes the Cement Auction is supposed to be the first Saturday of every month so it will be November 1st, which is also the same day as the Chupps Auction in Inola. Gerald and I have decided to take the long trip to visit the Chupps Auction this month. It begins at 8:00 am in the morning and the time we went before, all poultry was sold before noon. I don't know if we'll be able to go to the Cement Auction also .... it just depends on whether we buy anything and if we can drive really fast! I guess we won't be selling anything at either, except if anyone has specifically asked for something we have. Right now all we have left to sell are some young birds, silkie, buff orp, white guinea and jersey giant chicks, a couple of cuckoo marans roosters and some tom turkeys. Even if we don't take any birds with us, I'd love to go to the auction just to visit and to look .... you can never look to much at an auction! Our problem is that we've never gone home empty-handed! Gerald likes to spend that money!

Yeah, I wish we could have gone to Chickenstock too .... I'm sorry we missed it ... but it's a 4 hour drive for us to Poteau.

Carla :
I know what you mean chickenstock was a big drive for me two. Yes I was hoping it was this Sat, the last time you and Gerald did the double Chupps & Cement it seemed like a long day for you guy's. How old are your Buff O's and are they hens or mixed, I really was hoping to find some Buff O hens at Cement this month. KT gave me a couple of stunning BO Roos that I may want to experiment with, just wondering I wouldn't want you to make the trip all the way to Cement if you had not planned on going. I don't want too young of a bird with the cold coming on soon, but heck I am open to anything. let me know what you think if it is not to much trouble. I know what you mean about leaving an auction empty handed, last month I didn't buy any and it like to kill me, haha.

Thanks Carla

We at Chickenstock would have liked a bigger turn out, But maybe next year..it's the same for everyone
if it was in the middle then we would have had a long drive
