glad i live in the country- no one cares what i have, except neighbors wanting eggs!

I have a baby!

A Hamburg was the first to hatch.

There are 3 more that have pipped. An Ameraucana Bantam, Sicilian Buttercup Standard & Cochin Frizzle Bantam. It's a race to see who hatches next!

Boy! That Hamburg is noisy. It needs a friend!

You are obviously much more organized than I am regarding hatching eggs. I usually forget to write anything other than the date on the shell and then I wonder what breed the chicks are.

It's gotten to be a habit now to write the date and breed on each egg. I always put them in the egg turner too. If I don't do anything with them after a week, I put them in the frig. Then if I have too many, I'll give them away for eating. Some of my friends have looked at the eggs and asked what the writing meant. I usually get pretty funny looks when I start trying to explain...

Right now I already have Lucy the Llama following me around. If I befriend a chick and it starts following me around too, I'm afraid my friends will really think I have problems!

BigOkie,
Someone asked me today where they could get a rooster that was at least 2 years old, to cook. I don't think they really want one that hasn't been processed, but I thought of you and all your rooster customers. This person wants to cook it in some French recipe. I think a rooster that is more than 2 years old would have the texture of cardboard, no matter how you cooked it.

Have you ever eaten an old rooster cooked in a manner that made it tasty?

All our neighbors slow down to watch the turkey in my avatar strut up and down the fence - because anytime he knows people are watching him, he tries to court them. I carried him around for 3 days after he hatched and he doesn't realize that he isn't human.

Differences in color and size of eggs would be helpful. Your chickens are much more exotic than mine. With my current chickens, I can only distinguish which eggs are laid by "one of the" Americaunas. All the other chickens lay some size or color of brown egg. I used to have a RIR hen that had spots on her brown eggs, so I could tell which was her egg in a nest.
