We're getting to ya, huh? So are you out of the city limits, or in a ag zone?

I'm very near downtown. I have the legal amount of hens, plus some spares...so I'm already over the limit (don't tell on me!), so that's why I whine so much about not being able to get more birds. That and I like to whine...it's one of the few things I'm good at!

Your secret is safe with me. I will even play nice and quit tempting ya!

I like the country for that reason, myself. Somehow, I am in the city of Tulsa, but I am in the country. We are zoned ag. However, Sand Springs is closer for us to shop for anything, lol. So when people ask where I am from I usually tell them Sand Springs, but technically it is Tulsa.

Well, if this down pour keeps up my husband will be walk the foot beam to get home. The creek is really rolling.
Turkeys are as smart as the weatherman maybe smarter. They deiced to let me know that they wanted put up early tonight by landing on the trailer. Just got them up when the storm hit.
Lightner so better unhook the modem and answering machine to I am off here until it over

I am sure glad I got the big coop/condo in the total dry yesterday. I just walked out to it in the rain & lightning and it is all cozy in there. But the yard and pastures are a swamp. I guess Ya'll are in the same boat literally.

It's below 70 the wind is blowin & it's raining so I'm cold! LOL.

I hard boiled the eggs for the girls, they really liked it. I had never done that before. Got them some cabage too but didn't have time to get that hanging in the pen before the rain.

Everyone talking about hatching is giving me the bug! I keep telling myself that I can't do that right now.

I'm curious if you raised them yourself or if you purchased them just for butchering. If you raised them, what do you think was the problem that caused the disappointing taste? Or do you think it was the breed?

I ask because after goats and rabbits, pigs are on our list for possible future home grown meat.

ETA:
OOPS! Forgot catfish. We are building a catfish tractor this weekend and picking up a hundred fingerlings from the fish truck when it rolls into town at the Lawton co-op come next Tuesday.

We purchased the pigs full grown at the Jones auction in February and butchered them in April. They had been show pigs. I think it was the way they were butchered and processed, since none of the meat has much flavor. We had always used a buther up by Bristow in the past for hogs and didn't use them this time because they couldn't give us a butcher date until June. That butcher always made fantastic hams and bacon. I think the butcher makes a difference.

I just went to track the order and it has est date of 10/9 through 10/27!!! One is in transit but the other doesn't show that it has been shipped yet.

I am really excited about getting them I sure hope one makes it tomorrow.
