That song is evil.

(cuz' they don't have a "plugs ears" smilie)

Have any of you ever heard one rooster tell the other chickens to shut-up? It's hilarious. I had some hens carrying on one night (early morning), I think a cat startled them. My main cubalaya rooster made this weird screeching noise and they all stopped cackling. I was out walking around with the .22 thinking a coon or somethin' was in the yard.

Oh he is so handsome! Have you found out for sure if an unrecognized bird can win class champion or not (it seams I get a different answer everytime I ask someone.... kind of like with those Spitzhaubens, I entered them in two shows and they were put in a different class each time

)

I've been told a unrecognized breed (URB) cannot win Best of Show (or Reserve) but it could win any other title. From my limited experience I really doubt a bird would get beyond Best of Breed when there is a lot of birds. At the Idabel show Liz's Fayoumi got Reserve AOSB, but that was from lack of competition. So I guess that would be proof that they can get class champion. I know your Spitzhaubens were a big surprise to me at Eufala. That was the first time I've seen a URB large fowl in a different class from AOSB. I have a feeling it will be a toss up each time one appears at a show. If we keep on pushing URB, I'm sure we will learn exactly how a show should handle them but that doesn't mean they will listen. I guess I need to go through the APA & ABA Standards to find out exactly what is written.

It's on my to do list now! I'll will find out which class they should be in too.

A lot of folks I know, that show URBs, will also have a breed standard of perfection on hand for a judge to reference.

I've been carrying the APA Standards with me. I just need to find & highlight the info.

I've got an ABA ordered right now.

Edited to add:

I wonder if having the proposed standard available would help?

It can't hurt.

Some countries have breed standards available also. So if the US lacks something, the Brittish, French, German, etc... might have one.

We're doing the Halloween thing tonight. Went to Lauren's party at school. Carved pie pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns. We couldn't find any bigger pumpkins, but it was a fun experience. I'll post pics later when we light them. We're headed out to do some trick or treating. See ya'll later.

Al, when i was done town at TSC this morning I came across an article in a poultry mag that made me think of you. I think it was called backyard poultry. It showed homemade water heaters. Not sure if it was the only one but the one I remember was a round metal cakepan modified it had 2 long lights in it (look like fishtank lights) and a whole cut in teh top where the waterer would sit. I guess those two lights put enough heat to keep water from freezing.
