Sherri, I'm glad the made it safely! I know with some breeds (like Seramas) you really have to keep breeding birds and showing birds, because they are only good for one thing or the other

I hope they do well for the showing part though! I bet they will be the "talk of the town" wherever you enter them!

Very cute Seramas, Dandelion! I've heard they are hard to breed and hatch - but I didn't know they carried a lethal gene. I hope you have great luck with them! They look like they know they are rare but mighty little birds!

Oh he is so handsome! Have you found out for sure if an unrecognized bird can win class champion or not (it seams I get a different answer everytime I ask someone.... kind of like with those Spitzhaubens, I entered them in two shows and they were put in a different class each time

yes that was her. When I asked her how they met etc, told her I saw you on the board and she was like Oh yeah they use the same barber. She's a good kid. Lucky me I'm sophomore sponsor and she's the vp so I don't have to do much organizing. That's a good thing b/c I'm a terrible organizer. My motto is: Geniuses thrive on clutter (used to have that on a mini poster with a pic of garfield behind a cluttered desk).

The best source I know of for Brown Leghorn Bantams (though he is sadly not a BYC member) is a guy named Jacob Bates from Arkansas. He is in charge of some part of the Fayetville,AR show next week, and I'm sure he will be at Shawnee. He really "knows his birds" and has even been the judge for two poultry shows I have gone to.

As in the APA/ABA Judge? That's a guarantee you are getting a good line!

I posted this last nite about the Genesis 1588 incubator, or thought i did but my internet pooped on me. The 1588 is pretty much the perfect incubator if you dont plan on doing more than 42 eggs in any one sitting ever (42 egg capacicity with auto turner). I have 2 1588's and still use them to hatch in even though I have an older sportsman cabinet bator. Me and my daughter threw 6 eggs in ours once and forgot about them till we heard chirping, never did anything and got 100% hatch on those. I cant praise the 1588 enough, its preset so all you do is add some water and a hydrometer (about 7$ at walmart springfield precision). I highly recommend you get an auto turner it will rotate the eggs several times a day, this helps keep inside the bator a constant temp/ humidity sense your not opening the bator 3 times a day to rotate eggs.

Ok, I think my husband is hooked now. We were in the car and the song "Battlefield" by Jordin Sparks came on. He stated that every time he hears the song it makes him think of chickens. There is a line in the song that states "better go and get your armor," but to him it sounds like "better go and get Seramas." He is just a little crazy.
