I dunno if anyone else in our Okie group has ever hatched any RIR eggs from Imogene (TatersChickens here on BYC) but I have 11 so far and they are awesome!! The photos of her flock show that they are the deep deep mahogony RIR's and wait til you see how deep dark red these chicks are!! Way way darker than those I bought at Atwoods earlier this year. So if anyone wants RIR chickens I can highly recommend those from TatersChickens!!

me again.

Thanks Shawn!!!!

OK...this is definately an abscess...it looks like the tail on turkey ya get at the store...I would have to remove the whole thing....can't imagine doing that....I figure I'm gonna be wasting my time with antibiotics if I can't get the infection drained out....? Jeez...some of my hens sleep on the droppings boards rather than roost....and I know they get poopy butts....never seen anything like this...wow...have to go to town and get scalpels and pennicillin, if I was gonna try to fix it. she's just in there soaking in a sitz bath.....seems content to do that

Morning everyone... Jason and I are busy cleaning up the place.. STILL! Our goal is to clean up all the debris and trash left from the sellers and our own projects, and then take the mower, brush hog and weed eater to the brush and over grown pasture.. THEN Step back and look at what improvements we can do on this place as far as fencing and shelters for the animals..

Our desire is to raise Heritage breed Turkeys for conservation and education and if we make a profit then thats icing: But first we want to hone in on the birds and learn all we can about them, we have found this poultry/fowl adventure we are on to be very interesting. I personally never would have thought there could be so much beauty in chickens, Geese, Turkeys ect. Since joining the BYC and visiting with you fellow Okies and seeing all your birds I can look past the normal chicken in the freezer and eggs in the cartoon and see much much more.

Its true who needs holly wood entertainment when you can sit out on the back porch and watch chickens do the real chicken dance!

Time for me to clean up the Breakfast

Goodness, can the critters leave the chickens alone! Seems like they keep going for the good ones. Are you going to be hunting tonight?

Well I know I am gonna be working on the traps today and make sure they are functioning.

It was my fault. He had a watery eye on Sunday so I had isolated him and was treating him. I started to move him back into one of the breeding pens yesterday but thought I'll come back and do it later. The pen he was hen just had a simple loop over latch and it looks like coonboy had no trouble getting in.

Lesson here is that procrastination kills. I f I had moved him when I thought about it then I would still have him. I still have some good roosters but he was gonna be the number one guy come spring. The Burt Reynolds/ Tom Selleck/ Brad Pitt of my Wellie program.

Sorry about your loss.

I have "been there, done that". That is what cost Grace her Hamburgs. I knew the pen had a broken bottom rail and "was going to fix it later". I have started building new pens (elevated) so I she can secure them at night. I also replaced all of the hook and eye latched to the ones with the spring locks on them. I don't think even a coon can open one of those.
