Probably because you have only heard it from fellow Okies.

I think it is mostly a California thing. Plus it may be dying out. Most of my experiences were pre-1985. Prejudices die slow, but they do eventually die.

Another side of it is the kind you heard, where those who consider themselves "Oklahomans" become offended to be lumped with Okies. That's yet another kind of prejudice.

sometimes I refer to "beating a dead horse" as "animal cruelty" as in - move on to another area of discussion or I am going to say you are engaging in animal cruelty

As a transplant to Oklahoma in 1976, I really don't care whether you call me an Oklahoman or an Okie. After being raised a military brat, I am proud to be an Okie by choice. It is one of the friendliest states I have ever lived in and growing up on military bases, I lived in some friendly states, because bases were always friendly in my experience.
My mom laughs that she was raised on a farm in Indiana and couldn't wait to get away and go to college and I have found my little piece of heaven after going to college - raising chickens and rabbits and ............ lots of other critters.

Well, they're still acclimating in my kitchen

They'll get moved tomorrow. Reminds me... I gotta pick up a kitten tomorrow!

Carla - So good to hear Gerald is home and out of pain. And that he refused the spinal tap! Maybe he has a pinched nerve in his back; my dad has that happen quite often, and it gives you weird pain. The last time they thought he was having gallstones.

SW is a good hospital, my dad used to work there (ironically). And that's where I go; I'd never go to Chickasha.

Henney - Glad to hear the marshmallows helped her out!

Q - Glad to hear marshmallows haven't killed your chickens, makes me feel less guilty. Lol

Faerie - Are you home yet? Do you have any hatches yet??
