Okies in the BYC The Original

Oh yes, I forget about the horrible power outages. Ours was only out for two hours at the most, somehow. But I remember waking up so freezing cold!

Silver Blue, that sounds real pretty! But ya, who would want to eat moderns? It'd be like pre-made chicken jerky or something.

I was amazed this woman was grabbing them like crazy and I picked one up and she tried to take it out of my hand so I told her that one was mine. I can't imagine the little guys would be worth eating.

Dandelion is coming by in a little bit to get pair of birds from me.
She is a trooper. She drove from Durant to Fayettville for the show and then left there and is driving here
I don't know if she is going to drive home tonight or get a motel room and head back inthe morning.

The year of the ice it was sure fun driving back home. There was a thick frozen fog all of the way that made it hard to keep the windows clear. Would have stopped and got a room in OKC but Teva had to work the next morning.

This year she is taking both days off.

No I think I will just go to get more birds. We do have a bantam NN hen that I would like to show. She is purty.

I also need to throw this girl back in the show cages too but she has 1 white toenail on each foot.

I didn't really expect her to do that well that day but she acted very good for the judges and besides the toenails she is an outstanding bird. Those nails were the only thing that kept her off of champions row for the final judging for best of show. But I bet once I find just the right rooster her offspring will go there on a regular basis.

Once I get offspring off of those two I would be happy to set some of the juniors up with a show string.

I am going to try to get a good black Giant to put over all of my black NN hens and I have the white in a breeding pen with a bantam Leghorn rooster. The leghorn doesn't have the wing drop of the OE and they should make nice babies.

With the black she will never go any further then she did because of the defect. It would be unfair to start someone out with a bird like that.

We call them the original rednecks!! They do great in colder climates even with the 50% less feathering. I have seen them out slinging snow scratching for tidbits when all my other breeds were huddled on the roost.

I am home! I had so much fun! It was great for Madison to get to do her first show with other Okies to help her out. She showed the two white Cochin that she got from Tina through TJ's Nana & Bill. She got 2nd place in both shows on both birds. Not bad for her first time out. She even signed up to do showmanship. She didn't place there but she had alot of others with more experiance & I was just proud that she signed up (then came & told me) on her own.

I tell ya, I am so tired and it won't be getting better anytime soon. I will be up in the morning and headed to Sandsprings for a soccer tournament, she missed today for the show. Then we get signed up Tuesday for the poultry show on Thursday for her 4H club. On Wed we sheer the goat for the show on Sat. It's looking like another long week.

Randolph is a beautiful AFB. I love the beautiful Taj Mahal building there.

I really liked living in San Antonio. My parents would visit & stay at Randolph's VOQ. Mom loved to go to all the base exchanges in the area. That brings back good memories ... I loved sightseeing in San Antonio and all the festivals.
