Went to both Fletcher and Cement last night after getting off work at 6. Fletcher was kind of already winding down when we got there. Very little left, but I did have time for those free hot dogs.
It was kind of weird. Everybody was POing almost everything before the auctioneer was even finished trying to bring up the price. And they were often asking ridiculously high prices for an auction. I don't want to pick on anyone by giving examples, but it seemed like they just wanted it up on the table so they could ask a price for it and see if someone would buy it at that price. I laughed out loud at a couple of prices they asked. These really must be new people to the auction scene. Of course, that's not something the auctioneer has any control over. I got the impression at the end that is was starting to get discouraging for him and he was trying to hide it.
I looked around at what had already been sold and it looked like the pickings were light again. Although, could be people were already done by then and had been hauling off their stuff already. I think the whole thing was over before 7:00, so there couldn't have been a whole lot.
So, we headed for Cement to see what's what. Only 10 miles away so we got there by 7, and they were already done, as well. Looked like they had more birds than Fletcher, but not a whole lot more. Both auctions must have finished up at about the same time. Erlene asked someone and they said it was a light evening. I wandered around looking for people I knew. Al had left by then (he can probably give you a better take on the evening at Cement), and Michael was busy so loading and unloading birds so I didn't want to bother him.
I'm not sure what was going on last night with the auctions. What did Blanchard look like? Maybe everyone was pulled off to the big regional auction.
