I was talking about anything *other* than RIR. Maybe NN was right... Dorkings sure are pretty.

Q - Sounds like good picks on your kiddos' part! Don't think I've ever seen D'Anvers entered before. And Cochins are just beautiful to begin with, so they seem to do good at shows. Tell them good luck! And not to get down if they don't do as well as they'd like. Shawnee is the mother show, 2800 entries!

Faerie - Check out this little table: http://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/breed-list.aspx (Sorry to the mods if that website has a forum and I don't realize it.) That's actually where I started my chicken research, before I found the BYC. Its easy to read, and there's more info on each breed if you click the name.

Wyandottes are pretty, and supposed to be decent layers, come in a variety of colors...

Cammie I have told my kids that this was going to be a big show and there is a good possibility that they dont do as good as they expect to, but they do understand that this will be a good learning process and will prepare them for future shows.

Sooner I was going to ask about Maddisons 4-H show in January is that just for your local 4-H club or is it open to others as well??

I have to say that Dorkings are beautiful birds and agree with Cammie as well I have some Goldlaced Wyandottes and looking to get some other wyandottes as well, the eggs that I am getting from my Wyandottes are fertile but only getting about 4 a week but come spring time I will be hatching some of them and maybe if you are interested we can get some to you!

I crossed a RIR roo with some Leghorn hens and came up with 2 distinct color patterns, a white bird with a redish breast and a red bird with white flecks throughout the plumage and they are good egg layers too. They turned out to be midway between the two size wise and are less flighty then the Leghorns and less aggressive then the RIR.
