They are tasting the pine bedding, but since it is pine rather than cedar, it won't hurt them to eat a little of it. Part of growing up is learning to distinguish food from everything else on the ground..... mom

I'll try not to worry. I got a new hatcher and got 52 of 62 hatch of production Reds that I got from the neighbor. I love it! I told the wife to buy eggs at the store, I'm hatching mine!!!HAHA!!!

I wanna hatch now! I'm getting the hatching bug in the middle of the winter, no!!!

So what are the odds of my Cuckoo Maran successfully mating with my Sikie? Without hurting her? I want eggs from my Silkie, but this is my only chance to own a rooster. He has to go before March.

I can tell that you won't need any encouragement from the rest of us to become a hatching addict. This group is STILL waiting for someone to come along and be a leader in a 12 step "you can quit" program, cause it doesn't look like the leader can be you.

I have hatched many silkie x eggs and the chicks are sort of cute. They usually have a cowlick of feathers on top of their head - not enough to resemble a Polish, but definately feathers sticking straight up. Is the roo a standard size or a bantam? I am going to defer to some more experienced silkie experts, but in my opinion, as long as you keep an eye on your hen to be sure she isn't getting roughed up on a regular basis, she should do fine.

He's a standard. That's another reason I'd kinda like him to go sooner. I'm afraid he's gonna hurt her.

Les - I hadn't thought about that! Maybe Carla would be willing to charge me a stud fee. Lol

Teva has a hen that is bantam EE crossed with a bb red OEGB. Her daughter was fathered by a black Giant roo that went around 15 pounds. She is solid black with muffs and a beard and is awesome looking. The Giant cross put a really nice full body on her, she looks like a bantam on steriods!!
