Let me say first that this worked for *us*. My sister's oldest son was unable to be controlled with a diet/exercise change, so my sister opted the lowest dose of medication PLUS diet/exercise and that has worked for him. But at least she tried first.

I have always believed that medication is supposed to be the last resort. It doesn't usually fix the underlying problem, only cover up the symptoms. I noticed the small things first... certain cereals would have her acting crazy within an hour or two. Peanut butter sandwiches calmed her down. The time she chugged half my espresso when I'd left the room and she didn't go through the roof. All those are markers of diet controlled ADD/ADHD. So I culled out the fruit loops and boxed mac'n'cheese, check labels for yellow and red dyes, cross out corn syrup unless there's absolutely no other choice, and if she gets the rare soda while we're out, it can't be colored (she loves root beer, but it does NOT love her back

) which leaves her with Sprite/7 Up/Sierra Mist. There are other things we do as well, such as controlling carbohydrates (interaction is different with a borderline kid... they are evil when they have a sugar crash). Fruit juices are 100% juice and I cut them with 50% water. It isn't difficult, it's just that many people don't like having their "conveniences" taken away from them.

I don't like to cook. I don't cook very well. Until I noticed what was going on with her, I'll be the first to admit to eating pre-packaged "box nasties" as J calls them. I've never been a particularly active adult. However, making HER eat better has made me learn to cook well enough that it's edible, and taking her to soccer practice gives me time to walk around the soccer complex and get some exercise. All in all, it has benefited both of us, not just her.

I should also mention that I've become one of those hippy no preservative/no pesticide people too... I noticed that when they changed the fertilizers/pesticides used in banana crops, I suddenly had an allergy to bananas that could legitimately kill me. It's starting to spread to other imported fruits, like mangos/papayas/star fruit/avocados and the list goes on. If I can't get it "all natural", I have to be very careful eating it because the reaction only takes minutes and could kill me... and I don't know if that particular item is going to be safe between periods of eating it. I have to carry an Epi-Pen with me all the time now. What we're doing to the world for our own benefit is slowing killing us off through allergies and general bad health.

Yes! I agree fully! All of the different pesticides, unnatural ingredients, and preservatives are not good for us, they are just not natural. Studies are showing them to decline health (I almost put human here but realized it is not just human but all living life). I myself am a hypoglycemic and found out in High school. Even though my parents made mostly homemade meals, when I went into High school and was probably more exposed to other preservatives and junk food it started affecting my body in a bad way. I started getting very dizzy and passed out in Basketball practice with my fingers turning blue. It was so bad my coach started freaking out calling the nurse and my mother. My mother immediately called my doctor and I then under went several testing only to find I am hypoglycemic. So I too have to watch the carbohydrates, eat more protein and watch my sugar intake. If you think about it though, humans did not originally have bread and ate more vegetables and things in a more natural state. We as humans have tried to make things easier for our lifestyles by adding preservatives to make things faster for us to eat run and go. These are not natural and they are wreaking havoc on our bodies. There are cases when you have to come to terms and resort to medications, but I feel it should be a last resort when nothing else works. As a researcher, it is always best to make sure that it is the last resort, because there are many other adverse reactions that may happen from any medication and if one may be able to keep their body's in the more natural state without drugs it is the best one can do. I am not trying to say never take any medication, but if you can control a condition with out having to take a drug that is the better course to take. It is kind of funny I preach this way and if anybody here is a recruiter for any drug company you did not hear me say this (since I work on studies to show a drug works for a certain condition), LOL.

Yeah, maybe I might have had too much time on my hands today. It is way too muddy outside with the snow melting and the DH and DD left to go and get some deer meat that was being processed, so I was left to catch up on all the posts. I may have had a lot of time on my hands today, but it isn't everyday, LOL. Although, it would be nice if I did, hhehehehehe. We had company over this evening and ate dinner then played different games on the new Wii. All of us were playing 'Dancing with the Stars', oh so much fun and laughter. Of course, we were all drinking some different drinks (except Char was drinking virgin Pina Colada's). So now that everybody has left, Char is in bed fast asleep and Larry is snoring up the next snow storm and I am catching up on the posts that I have missed the last few hours before I hit the sack myself.

CountyRoad, Congratulations on making post # 42,000
I was watching the post count last night, but went to bed before we made it to yet another mileage point.

There are two pullets that have decided they don't like living in the chicken coop and prefer to roost in the carport instead. They have been mavericks for a month now and if I could catch them, they might now be too tall to crawl under the chain link fence gate again. The challenge is catching them, since they have become very good at navigating in and around the carport and through the rabbit barn and they finish off the dry cat food each day..... should have fixed my net this past weekend

Don't cry, Cammie! It was years ago - way back in '88. That was probably the worst year of my life, but we made it through just fine. The house fire was a piece of cake compared to dealing with DH's health issues. I thought I was going to lose him (doctor said there was never any danger of that, but it sure didn't seem that way to me!)

Morning Faerie! Hopefully that tingling is just from sleeping funny and not something more concerning. If it doesn't go away soon, or if it spreads, you might want to call a doctor for medical advise.

Me - I'm so fat it's not unusual for me to wake up with pins and needles on one whole side of my body - from sleeping on it. It goes away. Have a cup of tea on me!

I can pretty much guarantee that's what it is... I sleep extremely hard and I don't move much. I've woken up many many mornings unable to roll over because half my body went to sleep

It'll go away... just struck me as funny.

I'm at work and my boss sits across the row from me (the joys of working in a cube farm). He just asked me if I've done something... which is on the list in his hand that says "completed".

Well I am off to the salt mine, shoulda been gone an hour ago but needed a couple of more sip's of joe. I am working on a 3 house total redo, 3-2 bdrm units on the same lot. I am doing all new windows and doors now, 71 windows and 9 doors. next week I will start on retexturing all the walls, before I lay in all the new Kitchen and bath cabinets and fixtures and plumbing, then move to tile and trim & paint the entire insides and outsides, I did all the roofs last week. I am starting to get a little sore LOL.

When I finally get up the $ to gut my house and re-do the interior before I sell it, I'll have to hit you up for the name of a contractor.

Good morning Okies!! What a fantastic, beautiful day (except for the cold, gray part, but I can overlook that)!

Good job on the job, Al! I wish I had your knowledge about replacing, remodeling, fixing and building stuff. My attempts at carpentry usually result in crooked cartoon-looking items, although I think I'm okay at laying tile. My house was built in 1910 and I have lots of opportunity to practice, but I am always afraid I'll really mess something up. So people who have your skills really impress me!

Dee, thanks for sharing the story of your Hard Year...I'm so glad you and DH are okay and that you're here to talk to us!

I'm just popping in to revive the thread and say hello, but I'm jumping right off again and will stop by later. Everyone have a safe, warm, happy day!
