we usually just buy used ones at auction. If the pan is rusted out Teva usually pays about a quarter for them. Clean the pan really good and just use duct tape on them, both sides. A cheap fix like that will last over a year if kept dry.

Great idea - I tossed some out that were rusted through on the feed pan, but still have some with rusty spots - isn't duct tape wonderful

My biggest frustration with the metal feeders is the difficulty in keeping the sparrows out of the top of the feeder. Any suggestions? I have tried pie pans and other kinds of lids on top, with limited success. Even the kind of lid that is made for them is difficult to use.

I just fold a feed sack and cover mine.

Al what do you change as far as feed when it comes to laying?

I feed more protein, keep oyster shells on hand, and supplement with special seed blends for some birds for plumage and overall Vigor for the Roosters, Black oil sunflowers works great but can be a tad $$$$.

Take and make a wooden disc just a tad larger then the top of the feeder and then take some of the "L" corner braces and screw them to one side. put that side over the feeder with the braces hanging down. Get the braces that are meant for an inside corner.

Q another trick that I have learned through the years is to worm the birds as they go into a molt. They usually go off the lay at that time so you don't have to worry about withdrawl times on the eggs.

The whole idea is to get them laying good strong eggs, enhance the Roosters Vitality & fertility, equals better hatch rates and healthier chicks.

Yes, Morgans make great driving horses too. My Aunt trains quite a few for driving, they do it so very beautifully. Morgans have a very beautiful gait to the trot and feel so smooth when riding, too. I know a while back we had a stockier one the older style Morgan, I don't know what all they have these days. I hardly go around the horses, because of my allergies. When I am not around them often, my eyes get really itchy and I sneeze constantly. So unless, I am going on a ride with my mom or something and have prepared myself with allergy meds, I don't get around them too much. I haven't shown since college, but I do miss owning and riding one myself. I have been working on my husband for awhile now to persuade him to let me have one and so has our daughter because she also loves horses and loves to ride (anytime my mom has a horse camp she is there).
