WOW!

I think I just felt an earthquake.
The whole house shook for about 2 seconds.
There wasn't any noise just shaking.
There have been numerous quakes confirmed in the Jones/Choctaw area in the past few months but that is the first one I have felt.
It was either that or an explosion somewhere that I could't hear but could feel the persussion.

Didn't feel anything here in OKC but that doesn't mean anything. Coulda just meant that I wasn't paying attention to the earth moving beneath my feet...

Sorry Teach that I'm killing your friends. I really got started on it after one of my Shar-Peis died. I found her dead with her head swelled up, food still in her dish and the copperhead hiding under the dish. It wasn't hard to replay that scene. A few of my other dogs had came up with copperhead bites too. (One of them was my little chihuahua. Ouch.) So with 4 dogs being affected I knew I needed to get serious. Then there was the 6 1/2 foot water snake that ate one of my Yokohama chicks. I found it still in the pen with the chickens going crazy. A couple days later I guess it's mate was over in the hen box. (I wondered why my hens weren't laying very well...) There's only so many times you can open the chicken pen, bend down to get eggs and be face to face with a copperhead (happened twice with copperheads and once with the water snake). It definitely gets your pulse moving. Not far from here is a place everyone calls copperhead hill. I think they may be trying to expand. Last year was my "year of the snakes". (I'm hoping this is the end of it.) Then there was also the night we got back late and had to feed in the dark. I had my two daughters out with me and we only had one light. I saw one copperhead and killed it. I shined the light all around the girls and told them not to move. I added they like to travel in pairs. Then I found the second one and killed it. Their eyes got big! My girls won't help me feed at night anymore. Doesn't matter if it's 20 degrees and I explain that snakes aren't out then. So I think it is obvious that my snake problem is a little out of control. I just hope it is over. However, I'm not looking forward to find out when the temperatures warm back up.

But Teach, if you want to come save the snakes I welcome you to come relocate them.

They seem to come out often when I'm around. I'll even offer to be snake bait. I'm not an ophidiophobic (snake phobic). My ex had a couple of snakes (ball python and boa). I did handle them some. Occasionally, I had to feed them when the ex was away for extended field exercises. I guess the moral of this story is leave my chickens and dogs alone.

Steph, the baby copperhead story is chilling. I've heard the venom from a little one is the same as a grown one. I hope the idiot learned.

Thanks Fizzle for the information. I might have to consider getting a Judge. It depends on what happens this next season. If I need any more suggestions, I'll definitely contact you.

I didn't mean for this to become a book! I'll shut up now.

Oh wow Dandy... you're a better person than I am. I was bitten when I was 7, I still freeze and feel like I'm gonna stroke out when I see any snake that might be venomous, even if it's behind glass. Guess who doesn't go to the snake area of the zoo? My dad used to go with me out at Dripping Springs with a pistol loaded with snake shot and a pug... Mr. J would do that pug thing where all their skin goes around their face (draws up) and Dad would find the snake and kill it. Nine times out of ten, it was a copperhead or cottonmouth.

OK Where is the day crew? I know most of the all niter club is still in bed except Farie who is a workaholic.

I guess I should add dandelion to that list since she is the last person besides me to post.

Speaking of guineas - All I know about them is that
I don't want any !!! But, Uncle Jack's have been
terriorizing the neighbors and he wants to get rid
of them. He has about 100, the oldest of them is
just turning 2.....has all colors...

He wants $7 ea., but said if someone wanted
50 or more, he'd take $6. He is located here
north of Tahlequah across the creek from us.

If anyone wants any, holler or send me a PM and
I'll put you in touch with him.

Have a good one !

Um, I had a traumatizing experience with my grandma's guineas when I was a child... so no guineas for me.
