I think it is with a waneing moon, whatever that is.

The Farmers Almenac (sp) used to have the best dates in it. But I haven't picked one up in years so now it may not.

On light colored legs though wait until the red stripe down the outside gets bright red. It is said that they bleed less.

So do you just have to wait until they grow up or what? I see people advertising pullet chicks?

sometimes you can depending on the breed. BUT, here is what i was told, if you lay them in your hand on their back, if they are passive, girls- if they struggle, cocks- it seems to work most of the time- but has to be done when they are little chicks- i am sure there are all sorts of old timers theories- i have heard about wing feather length too...

LOL Got 2 eggs today and the hens are still biting me but they will settle down. I seperated the single combs from the others and it looks like most of the hens will have spurs later on.

LOL! They have never done that before, but of course we never scared them half to death by having to relocate them. I kinda miss gettinh those eggs they were my biggest layers. LOL!

Waning moon is when the moon is going from a full moon toward new moon. A moon going from new moon to full is said to be waxing. A half moon is called a gibbous moon. So, a moon going from half moon to new moon is called a waning gibbous, and a new moon going to half is called a waxing gibbous.

Considering this information, the next waning moon cycle will start on January 31st.

Farmer's Almanac is now online and free!

NN are necked necks allowed (not a good word) to have anything but single combs? The little crele roos have light colored legs so the red line should show up well. Just hope it happens when its not down in the fridgid temps! I guess I could put them in a heated area for a few days.

Thanks, I am feeling somewhat better. I slept most of the afternoon and won't have any problem sleeping all night.
We pretty much broke even on the animals. I was pleasantly surprised that the goats sold for over $100 each, but disappointed that the llamas only brought between $30 and $60 each. The guy behind me in line to check out also sold llamas. He said he was downsizing because of not wanting to feed them all winter - so I guess this was the wrong time of year to be selling large animals.

I still have the main female llama who just had a cria a few weeks ago, so sometime in the future I will get another male llama and regrow my herd. They are such facinating creatures.

P.B you should take a lama to blanch i seen thim bring more than that a young female brot 150 back in the summer.
