Thanks!, We were wondering considering out of all the POOP chicks we ended up with only 2 out of the 7 we got were roo's of their breed... so now that makes 5 hens of their bunch although we lost a hen a month or so ago....
Jeannie
so PB & J oops I mean P&B Be more than happy to take the NN roo for your friend if its not adopted out prior to maybe tomorrow... Jason and I want to try and hit up Blanchard to return your cage and what not...
Now that is just not right!!! To be honest with you the pic of the skunk does not creep me out as bad as the NN pics. It is the red skin I think is what does it.
I love showgirls, with their extra toes and black skin.

I sure could use one more Speckled Sussex rooster. I'm not able to go to Blanchard, though. Is Quenston still going to Blanchard? He'd be driving within 30 minutes of my place on his way home. Don't know if he'd want to play chicken transporter, though.
I actually replaced pipes in the well house under his watchfull eyes. As long as I have at least one of them grubbibg around the pens at night I know that nothing will mess with the birds.
One night he had gotten into one of the pens. As I was doing a late night check I could hear a broody hen growling so I took the light and looked in. He was curled up asleep in the opposite corner.
The mille fleur cochin project is exactly that... a project. The pattern isn't anywhere near perfect yet. I have 7 MFCs; 3 cockerals, 4 pullets. I have 2 more pullets coming in March.
Tsunami & Sandstorm:
Tornado & Cyclone
I need to take new pictures. These guys have changed a LOT. There is much more prominent patterning to the feathers, chevrons look better, etc. The two pullets I'll pick up in March already have distinct chevron development. None of mine are old enough to lay yet (darn!).
There's a whole lot of work to be done with the project before we'll have the right kind of pattern. Oh, and btw... a true MFC has no d'uccle in its previous history.
It takes too long to breed out the stiff feathers and dropped wings and the beards.
have y'all given any thought to maybe trying to plan out the get together by the hour? I mean, so we can plan to put on a few 'seminars', for lack of a better word. Someone could talk about showing, and maybe Les could talk about basic first aid. I'm sure there are topics on other people minds that they would like to recommend. Any ideas?

They are Omnivores but are happy eating the white grubs just below the surface in your lawn or the june bugs under a light. Through the years I have never lost a bird to a skunk. Eggs have been fair game though.
The scent glands must be removed in the very early stages of life. In older animals they get too much callous material built up around them. I have known people through the years with skunks that were not de-scented and kept as pets.
A skunk can only fire off his scent about once every month, if you smell skunk on two nights in a row then you have at least 2 skunks. They are fascinating little critters.
